| Post subject: | Good, Cheap Wireless Router? |
I'm looking for a new router (that can hopefully be ordered today with overnight shipping at Amazon), so as to have a router set up and ready to go when we move into the rental house. My criteria: * Must have at least four wired ports * Best/strongest wifi signal available for the price * Hoping to spend no more than $70 (lower is, of course, better, but I have a bit of lee-way at the top end) Recommendations? |

Linksys, unlike Kaffis, is the only wireless router brand that has been reliable for more than a year for me. I own the first router Stathol suggested and it has been solid as a rock for me for 5 years. I constantly stream videos wirelessly through it for my wii and xbox, from several rooms away. Another reason I like Linksys is that they are made by Cisco. |

I'm not going to make a blanket recommendation for Linksys. Not all of their networking products are stellar, even after the buyout by Cisco. But the WRT series has been deserving of its reputation. |

I've had the one linked above before (two of 'em, actually), and they both worked great for a while, but then fell into the old "lost connection, need to unplug router to reset" trap. The two I've been looking at are the Belkin Wireless N+ ($60) and the cheaper, unknown-to-me but well-reviewed Medialink Wireless N Router ($40). But networking is not my strong suit, so aside from a few experiences, I don't really know the best stuff. Also, quick question...why the recommendation for switches? |

Thus, you wire everything to the switch, so that only external traffic and wireless-to-wired traffic is constrained by the 100 megabit wired connections on the router. |

That's good to know, I just ordered a Linksys WRT400N last night because my router is on it's last leg and it seemed like a great deal for the price as newegg had it marked down to $69 from $129 (still $129 on Linksys's site), especially great because I was looking to get a dual band router if possible and they all seemed to be around that price for switchable and $100-200 range for simultaneous dual band and the WRT400N does simultaneous dual band. |

I have the dual-band version (dir-825, otherwise identical) of this D-Link DIR-655 router and it works fantastic throughout the house. Decent firmware on it as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product |

I have a linksys WRT wireless G router that I've been using for.... too many years. Have not had a single problem with it. |

I'm with Lenas. D-Link has always been my favorite, and my 6 (?) year old 625 is going strong. I've been meaning to replace it now that N is out of draft, though. |

I have not had it for very long, but it has done good by me. I had my prior Linksys for several years, it still works, but I wanted to start the N setup in my home. And I wanted a cheap router to load the WRTG software onto, so the old Linksys it was... |

I've had good luck with the WRT line of routers. I've been using two of them for years. Definitely no complaints. I have not tried any of their new fangled post-cisco-acquisition stuff, so I can't speak to that. |
