Microsoft has set up a new website to discourage the ongoing use of Internet Explorer 6. Quote: 10 years ago a browser was born. Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2011, in an era of modern web standards, it’s time to say goodbye. This website is dedicated to watching Internet Explorer 6 usage drop to less than 1% worldwide, so more websites can choose to drop support for Internet Explorer 6, saving hours of work for web developers. http://ie6countdown.com/ |

(And ironically enough, I'm posting this from IE6 since it's our only work-approved browser.) |

A lot of people are forced by their employers to use IE6 because they don't have privileges to install new software. |

Wow - the Chi-comm's love them some IE6. They paranoid that Microsoft built in some back-doors or something? |

Maybe. It's trivial to get pirated XP to pass WU validation, though. Although I suppose Microsoft might do something different with WGA/MPA for traffic from China. Here in the U.S., you just need to blackhole mpa.one.microsoft.com... Well, that and have a good keygen. But some dude cracked the ECC private key they used for XP years ago. |

I thought they updated it in 2009 to make it much harder. |

They added a windows update that you can opt out of receiving that made it much harder. |

Anyways I don't think the average Chinese person who buys an illegitimate copy from a street vendor knows how to do Windows update. |

If you have the right key WU validation won't give any problems. |

And now, we have it from the mouth of Microsoft itself: "Friends don't let friends use Internet Explorer 6" |

Hey dude, IE9 is good stuff so far. I'd likely use it were Chrome not an option. |

Hmm. Firefox appears to be eating my size-modified qualifier there. There's supposed to be a small number 6 there at the end of the quote. It showed up fine in the preview on Chrome at work. Odd. |

Chrome is slightly the best. Firefox and IE9 are both good too. Opera is a good backup browser. |
