I need a device that: 1. Can display power point files onto a large flat screen monitor (or television). 2. won't be doing anything else 3. Can have the power point file easily updated by the non technical. The file doesn't have to be edited on there just easily copied/synced from the office PC 4. has a price point consistent with its limited intended use, but we don't want to buy anything used/refurbished. So Tablet, Cheap PC, Cheap Netbook might all fit the deal. recommendations. |

check the inputs available on a WalMart eMachine. If that will display to an external TV... they are between 300-500. |

It doesn't have to have tv out. a sufficiently large flat screen monitor would do the trick. Basically just trying to build an indoor marquee without having to pay the sign company 5,000. |

Get a super cheap PC off ebay, like a $50 one. |

iPad 1 works. I know you said you didn't want refurbished, but I think their refurbished units are quite nice- new screen, new back, new battery, and will run around $350 for what you need. I've used my iPad several times with the Keynote app to display Powerpoints via the VGA adapter, and it works fine. With Dropbox, you can easily copy/sync all your files from your office PC. |

Cheap desktops are cheaper than ipads. iPads have tons of modern features that are unecessary for this task. |

Unless you're building it yourself (and I'm not sure he is), since he doesn't want to buy used/refurbished, it's hard to find even a cheap new desktop for much under $300. For the non-technical, I think the iPad is much easier to use, which was one of his other requirements. Both are solid options, however. |

It's just for displaying power point. Get a cheap used PoS off ebay. iPads are actually more difficult to use because people have grown up around computers (usually Windows), not iPads. I'm sure these people have used computers before. |

I'm aware there are plenty of cheap used desktops, but since he stipulated that whatever he was going to buy couldn't be used..... |
