Wow. This is a big move. Skype is huge, globally. 8.5 billion in cash? Nice.

Probably not as big of news to a lot of folks, but in the industry I am in Skype is a big player. Not sure what it will mean for Linux folks.

I was a little perplexed considering Skype is like $680m in debt, but I have no doubt now that Skype will be completely integrated into Xbox, Windows Phone and Windows 8, which can only be good for them. Why make existing tech yourself, eh, MS?

It's interesting how they outright bought Skype instead of licensing their products and services.

Skype is THE main way we communicate at work. Even among different offices in the same building. I can't wait for this great little program to become bloated, buggy, and unusable on non-Windows machines! Yay!

From what I read (since I don't use it myself), Skype already screwed themselves with the Skype 5 update on OSX. People HATED it!

Don't worry, FarSky. It'll be bloated, buggy, and unusable on Windows machines, too.

Ba-dump tsssh!

Not a fan of Skype. I have free LD on my cell phone in any event. I have no need for a phone service I can only use on my computer.

Skype's video chatting works pretty smoothly, too, though, and it has phone apps. It's a good service (well, presently), and is free when used on both ends.

I've got free long distance on my cell, sure, but I still pay for minutes/have a limited number of minutes. So Skype helps fill that gap when I'm making long calls frequently to a few people.

I also occasionally use it when playing PC games with my brothers where there's no good voice support. Sure, I could run a vent or TS server, but Skype is easier for them to set up.

H9 video chat. I do a bunch of other things when I do chat. I don't need the person on the other side wanting me to focus on my webcam ;)
