I have had zero luck in getting my PS3 to recognize any external drives. I've tried a 16G thumb drive and two seperate portable/external hard drives with 250G and 500G.

Is there an issue with this? I'd like to transfer some music and pictures to the PS3. I've tried the 250G drive in FAT and NTFS. I've created folders on the drives with the music in them. None of the things I've researched have worked. It's a newer model PS3.

Can't you send it on the network?

The PS3 requires a certain folder structure to recognize files on external drives. Are you just dropping stuff directly into the root directory? It should be something like:

Root
--> PS3
----> MUSIC
----> VIDEO

I think.

Pretty sure I tried it like that but I'll give it another go.

Cannot be formatted NTFS, either. (I know you tried both, just letting you know.)

PS3 should read an ext3 partition, and you should be able to mount it manually.
