I posted a while back about a new PC but put it off, so now since I have time I have worked on a couple of configurations that I am down to. So which way do you all think would be the best way to go basically it is AMD vs Intel, but I'm not sure which one would be best in the long run. There is only about a $300 difference in the price between the two, all parts are from new egg, and I will be building it myself.

I do plan on doing some OC either way I go, its been a while since I built my own so anything missing?

I'd buy a SeaSonic power supply regardless of which configuration you choose.

Why the 800W PSU in the first computer vs the 1000W PSU in the second? I didn't go through each component and add them up but it doesn't look like there's a 200W difference between the two systems, right? Do you plan to set up 2 570s in SLI?

At that price range, I'd go with the Hyper 212 EVO if you have the room in the case.

Again, I'd buy an 850w SeaSonic Modular and be done with it ...

I had originally picked a Seasonic but they were out of stock in the higher wattage. As far as why the PSU is different between the two I made the lists on different days and really just picked the cheapest highest rated modular one that showed up in the search at the time.

I know people always say go with the better PSU's but I have always used fairly inexpensive ones in the past and I have never had a problem or failure, maybe I am just lucky. I decided with this one I wanted a modular one to make it easier for cable management since there is a lot more than there used to be in the past when i built them. Other than that I had no preference other than I didn't want to spend $200 + on one.

I had thought about doing a dual set up eventually so I wanted a little extra in case I did.

I will look for that cpu cooler and see if they have it, never used an aftermarket fan before always just used the stock one. I also haven't really bothered with overclocking but thought if I was going to tinker with it I should upgrade the fan. The case is huge it is a full tower so plenty of room for everything.

I could go for a less expensive case but I really like the look of this one and I like some of the features it has, and the extra bonus is lots of room to play with.

Khross, I just have to wonder - why SeaSonic? I've had experience with lots of different PSU's but I've never bought a SeaSonic. What's the deciding factor that makes this stand out out for you? Are they all rated 80+ Gold? Reliability? Past experience?

Minimum of 80+ Gold, but the units they rate 80+ Gold are 80+ Platinum Units by other people's claims. They actually produce the total output stated at sustainable and safe amperage across all rails. And they don't fail ...

SeaSonic is to PSU's what Corellian Freighters are to Smugglers.

Yeah, SeaSonic is the only way to go with PSU's.

Oh, and ...

SeaSonic actually makes their own PSUs. I've mentioned this before, but it's generally very likely that SeaSonic actually made whatever Corsair or Sparkle or Thermaltake or <insert enthusiast flavor of the month> PSU you're actually looking at buying. The thing here, is, that some of the people use multiple suppliers and rebrand multiple parts. As such, it's generally just simpler to get the SeaSonic. The X750W+ is enough for anything any of us are going to build. Mine's pushing 2x GTX 560 Ti (448 Fermi) EVGA Cards, a i7-2600k at 6.0 GHz (Phase Change Cooling ftw), and 32 gb of DD3-1600 memory.

So, beyond just making the best PSUs you can get, you remove the questionable aspect of purchasing from any of these suppliers who rebrand other manufacturer's hardware.

So all of the pieces came today (damn you UPS for always coming to my house at the end of the day), I have it almost all assembled, still need to tie up cables and such.

Having some issues with the video right now, works fine if I use the onboard video (at least to get the bios to display still need to do the OS) I think I hooked the power up wrong to it.

I did change cases and went with the Thermaltake Chaser MK - 1, it was about $130 cheaper (Micro center here in town had it on sale cheaper than new egg and I got my CPU there cheaper as well on sale for $179 for the 2500k instead of the 2400)

Only issue is with my media card reader fitting the case, it only has 5 1/4 inch bays but it comes with a cage for 3.5 devices. However there is no way to attach the reader to the cage. I need to see if I can find some kind of adapter for it.

Reading comprehension FTW, when the video card says 2 power connectors you should use 2. So the video is now working.

Amazing what you get used to, my old system has been fine for the years I have had it. The new one though wow! The only game I am playing right now (mostly because I needed to upgrade) is world of tanks. I went from 5 - 25 FPS to 90 - 125 FPS, so pretty happy for the moment.
