Update: Got my Samsung Galaxy S3 at lunch today. My god its sexy. In comparison to the D3... this thing is a rocketship. fast as hell, huge screen, responsive... absolutely wonderful piece of kit. Let's see how I feel in 6 months (Not that the moose is fickle or anything) I've been a little irked at my Droid 3 lately. Its got some... issues. Some of which are probably my fault, due to rooting and stuff, but to be fair, I rooted it to try to resolve some performance (read:VZW Bloatware) issues, but that solution added new issues that haven't been... yeah, whatever. So, to that end, I'm looking to replace the damn thing. Bad news, I'm on VZW, or I'd buy me a Google Nexus from Google and be done with it. However, the GNex from VZ has their crap on it, and since no matter what I get from VZ, I'll probably just root it and put J Bean on it anyway, I may as well get a Galaxy S III. But what I'm asking mainly is if there's anyone that has any ideas about a better phone, easier to root, better roms etc. The D3 with its locked bootloader is a real PITA for me to work with, and I can't get it to accept a custom ROM even after hours of trying. (Which is really why I want to replace it). Thoughts? |

I can't speak to the VZW version, but everything I've heard about the AT&T version of the GNex is that the vendor installed version of the ROM is actually pretty decent. You might ask around and see what people on VZW are saying about it. I've heard good things about the SGIII, but that is second hand info, so take it for what it's worth. |

I dunno Shel. Anyone with Windows Phone on their radar right now would be smart to wait for the new handsets to release with WP8. Old handsets wont be compatible with the update. |

That's kinda what I was thinking. In looking around, it looks as if the Root process is a *lot* more simple than the D3 was, plus, there's a CM10 out for it at this time. |

I have a GS2 (non skyrocket/nexus/skyrocket HD ) and my one major complaint with the handset performance is the inability to consistently connect with wifi networks regardless of tge WEP protocol used: WPA, WPA2, WPA2-PSK etc. I would ask on the android and galaxy forums if people have been having better luck with the GS3. The GS2 was notorious for these types of issues. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2 |

Yeah, I know. If I didn't already own a Windows Phone, I wouldn't be buying one right now. I'm not even sure when I'll be able to upgrade to a WP8 handset, given how new my current phone is. I'm mostly just pullin' Müs's chain because he's been pretty outspoken in the other thread.Müs wrote: Android only. I should have specified. I know, I was just messin' with ya ;P

Heck, I'm still using my iPhone 3G. It still works, albeit very slowly and I'm not in need of all the fancy stuff you guys use. I'll probably look to upgrading soon. Battery is getting quicker and quicker between charge depletion. |

So I'd look around and confirm (I never looked for anything VZ specific since I don't use them) before making that assumption that just because you buy it in their store they'll have crapped all over it. The third option is to, you know, stop patronizing the service that shits all over your devices on a regular basis. Just throwing that out there, since upgrades usually mean that contract expirations are on the horizon, too. But yeah, if you feel comfortable rooting an S3, that might be the way to go; I hear it's pretty sexy. |

LTTP "However, the GNex from VZ has their crap on it" There are exactly two apps installed from Verizon on the Nexus, and both are easily disabled to never be seen or heard from again....all by an unrooted user. |
