Post subject: | Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 |
Since Tablets are the clipboards of the future (a fact I found out on my first site visit with my SGN10.1) I had decided to go with this device over an iPad mainly because, well, **** Apple. There's more to it than that though. I'm already tied into the Android Ecosystem with my Fire and Droid 3, so getting an Android tablet was a natural progression. Aside from the **** Appleness, the SGN 10.1 has specs that outstrip the iPad2 by far, and even outclass the iPad3 in all but screen resolution, but this is mainly due to the Wacom hardware's limitation of 1280X800 (from what I've read anyway) and for me, this display is still vibrant and quite pretty. Running on ICS with a Jellybean upgrade "coming soon", this thing is pretty fast. 2GB of ram and a quad core Exynos processor makes those angry birds just scream across the screen. Oh wait, they do that anyway. Something a little more processor intensive (I think anyway) like remote desktopping with Splashtop 2 HD back to my work computer from a customer's site is fabulous. The stylus that comes with it provides precise clicking and navigation just like a mouse would (btw, I have large fingers, so precision is hit and miss... (no pun intended)). Overall, the experience is smooth and responsive and pleasant. Battery life is also pretty good with its 7000mAh cell. It'll sit pretty much happily all day on my desk displaying the time and playing music from its front mounted speakers on a full charge. Video playback with Netflix and DirecTV's apps is pretty seamless, as would be expected from the latest generation of digital clipboards. So, to the pen thingy. Unique to Samsung's "Note" devices, the s-pen allows one to write naturally on the glass and take notes digitally. The last time I had a stylus, it was in my Treo and I *hated* it. This one though is a dream. I don't know what witchcraft it uses, but it registers pressure and touch like a real pen. The native s-note software does handwriting recognition and converts to text. Its a bit awkward and I'm still playing with it to get used to it, but I think I'm gonna like it. There is also a PhotoShop Touch app that I haven't delved into yet so I can't get into that too much. But I do like being able to take notes quickly without typing on an awkward keyboard. But that may be just me. Overall though, I love this bloody thing. |

Overall, I haven't had much love for using a stylus to take notes. I can't tell if it's the stylus I'm using, or that I haven't found an app I like. |

I really wish I could get myself into wanting to use tablets because the note 10.1 seems awesome, but I can't seem to, I do own a 7" galaxy tab that I got for my media player and gps in my old car, but since getting a new car in June I haven't turned that thing on at all, I either use my Galaxy note (original phone one) or i'm using my laptop. I really am curious as to how the 10.1 is for actual drawing though, while the wacom digitizer is nice on the note the 5.3" screen is too small for real drawing, plus I find my hand is constantly drawing on the screen the second I lift the stylus up, really wish they would make some switch to disable to the touchscreen entirely to make drawing more practical. |

The 10.1 has palm rejection stuff. I won't pretend to understand it, but it works pretty well. At least, it has as much as I've played with it, not being a drawer at all |

That's good to know, on the regular note it simply seems like it just doesn't allow the touchscreen and digitizer to operate at the exact same time, so if I have the stylus touching the screen my fingers/hand don't register, but the second I lift the stylus to move it my hand starts drawing where it was resting on the screen :/ |
