There's a rumor that Microsoft is creating its own smartphone under the Surface name. Supposedly launching in the first half of 2013. http://www.bgr.com/2012/10/02/microsoft ... s-phone-8/ |

I reread your commentary about developers hating Win8 for overriding Steam/Valve/etc. That doesn't explain why Blizzard is saying it is a catastrophe. Can you double check why the game hate for it? |

Why Blizzard doesn't like it, I have no idea. All of their games work just fine and I even get better performance on my Macbook from Win8 than I did 7. I'm honestly at a loss for that one. It's probably stemming from the same issue that your app needs to be "Metro" style to show in the store. Catastrophe, though? That's melodramatic bs. |

Their "The sky is falling" **** is because Microsoft's App store, which they do not have to use at all in Windows 8, is very much like Apple with it being a closed environment with MS taking a cut and they don't want that. They're afraid that once Microsoft starts this they'll eventually permanently switch over to this closed environment for Windows and that everything will have to go through a certification process, which will cost them money. Blizzard makes the majority of its money through PC Windows games and it would be a "catastrophe" for them if they eventually had to pay MS to make games on their OS like every single other developer does when they make console games. |

I wouldn't be that broken up about it, but Nokia has some great brand-only WP apps, like Nokia Drive Considering waiting to see if it'll be sold unlocked, but I imagine that'd put it somewhere in the $599 range which I dunno about. Guess the "Windows Phone 8x by HTC", yes that's the full, stupid name, is my runner up. |

That HTC one looks just as cool. I didn't look at the specs, and I'm sure the camera isn't as cool as the Nokia one has been touted. |

Yeah, just a bit smaller and I'm not sure how "Super LCD 2" compares to "PureMotion HD+ IPS LCD". Although the HTC does have more pixel density due to the slightly smaller size. |

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2410711,00.asp Lumia 810 T-Mobile Exclusive. Seriously Nokia? Why the hell would you shoot yourselves in the other foot now? Its bad enough that the 920 was ATT exclusive... but to make the other one a T-Mob exclusive... What the hell are they thinking? |

Well, the 920/820 are on AT&T, and the 810 is basically the same as the 820. Probably just made for different cell bands. Anyway, I hope Nokia goes belly up now thanks to this exclusivity crap. They deserve it. How do you battle low handset sales by only making them available on one carrier?!? Idiots! |

I mean, I understand why, but IMO they'd see better long term growth if they got their phones in the hands of 5x more people versus getting a fatter check right now. |

Yeah, exclusivity worked with the iPhone and ATT because the iSheep would jump carriers to have it no matter how much it did or did not suck. These Nokia things... not so much. Especially with HTC and Samsung competitors available on other carriers. "I really want a Nokia 920! But not enough to leave my current carrier and deal with ATT's bloated, overutilized network. I guess I'll just get this HTC its just as good." As opposed to "OMG I HAVE TO HAVE AN iPHONE!!! I'LL DO *ANYTHING* TO HAVE IT !!!1!!ONEELEVEN!!" There aren't Nokiasheep the way there's iSheep. |

It'll happen, though. Maybe not in the volumes that the iPhone converted users, but some will. And it'll continue to be effective to varying degrees so long as the phone is the most visible part of a customer's mobile experience, and outweighs for many people quality of service and value. |

I dunno. One high end windows phone is a lot like another high end windows phone. Hell, if you put the HTC and the Nokia next to each other with their branding removed, I'd have a hard time telling the two apart. Its different with iOS and Android and Windows. Hell, even Apple finally relented and let the iPhone off ATT. |

Post subject: | Re: Windows Phone 8 devices |
That's because Windows Phone has strict user experience requirements, like a middle ground between the iPhone and Android devices. All handsets have to meet pretty much the same criteria. |

And for the record, while not in the same numbers as those who went to AT&T to get the iPhone, there are those who have vowed to ditch T-Mobile over the Lumia 920 issue. |
