Now I feel like a noob.

I am trying to root my phone for the first time so I can uninstall the bloatware that my carrier loaded to my phone. But I have no clue WTF I am doing so I am at the mercy of others yet again, damn this learning stuff... why can't I just intuitively know this ****?

I swear to all that is out there, if they come out with a pill like in the movie Limitless... I am so on it

I tried one set of instructions last night and my phone proceeded to sit and do nothign for 20+ minutes (twice). And went right back on with no problems once I rebooted it, unrooted

Honestly... Otherthan being a jackass... There is no need to root a device. I was able to go back to default by choosing to factory reset the moFo

Don't be. You should have no need to root your device. Its an option that's available should you need it, but the majority of users won't ever do such a thing.

Rooted my SGS3 this morning... specifically to remove the persistent WIFI notification that VZ seems to think we all need.

No Verizon, I don't need to know that my WiFi is on. Its *always* on. You don't need to tell me. ;)

That, right there, would make me need to root the damn thing. Just knowing I could get rid of pointless notifications like that and not being able to would drive me nuts. Same thing with this "Bloatware" you guys were talking about.

I absolutely hate any sort of automatic update that produces any visible change in how an electronic device works, or installs any new software without getting my permission first. I paid for the computer/phone/whatever. I decide what goes on it, not you, phone company.

Okay, DE... I would like to say this right here and right now, and provide you with a picture of my device since I did root it....

**** rooting phones, completely unnecessary, on my next phone, I will just effing deal with the bloatware...

Here is the pic..

I jest, the phone is working, but it is not what I expected or wanted, and the ROM I put on auto backed up over my saved image from the base that was on it.

I will NOT be rooting any new phones or my tablet.

As long as it does GPS, texts, rings on my end when someone calls me and rings ont he other end when I call them, that would be ideal.

Get Nexi, and don't have to bother with rooting.

Unless you're a Verizon customer and were sold on the idea of "Nexi get updates the moment Google posts them." It's true for all Nexi except those on Verizon (and possibly Sprint). Jelly Bean hit for all Nexi on July 9th. Jelly Bean was released on Verizon on September 21st. Verizon doesn't trust Google and has to QA their updates (I am 95% certain Verizon doesn't do this for iPhone updates).

4.0.3 was released in December of last year, and it contained a major amount of bug and radio fixes. Verizon kept their phones on 4.0.2 until May the following year. Google got frustrated enough on that one that it actually released the source rom on it's own page for people willing to unlock their own phone.

I rooted and ROMed my phone the second I saw Jelly Bean was out and all the great additions it had. True, Verizon has released updates faster for this phone than normal. But, make no mistake, it is nowhere near the "Google experience" the Nexus promised.

It's a great phone, and very root friendly. It's just on a frustrating carrier.

On the subject of Verizon not running QA on iOS updates -- that's probably because the way Apple's designed iTunes and iOS to be integrated into each other, Verizon has no way to gate upgrades since users are given an "official" way to one-touch update their devices aside from OTA updates.

Sorry you're having trouble, Dark. Is your phone still bricked? I rooted my t-mobile G2X (LG Optimus G2) about a year ago, and have done a couple of upgrades to it - all w/ the support of XDA. Not sure if the Sammies use it, but I've had a lot of success using clockwordmod to manage my ROMs.

GL to you - there're a lot of talented hackers on XDA, and I was able to get a clean install of Gingerbread 6 months before t-mo released it. I'm looking for ICS right now - there's some ICS & Jellybean out there, but they don't have LG's hardware accelerators yet. The Korean version of my phone is supposed to get a stock ICS soon, and all the G2X devs are hunting for it.

Thank you. I was luckily able to get thestock ROM back on it, and then in order to get it back running i did indeed need to use clockworkmod. Now that it is running properly, I am leaving it alone. I was almost out a $400 phone, and that kind of stung...
