Here's another one you guys might want to take a look at. This one is about brain cells and their ability to fight off viruses. https://news.wustl.edu/news/Pages/25059.aspx Cho H, Proll SC, Szretter KJ, Katze MG, Gale Jr. M, Diamond MS. Differential innate immune response programs in neuronal subtypes determine susceptibility to infection in the brain by positive-stranded RNA viruses. Nature Medicine, online March 3, 2013. |

See, I'm not that good at looking this kinda stuff up. I can find the article reference on PubMed: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?ter ... Diamond+MS and I login via my UA account. But I can never figure out how to get the full article and not just the abstract. There a better way to get at the research? In any case, it seems interesting but my neuro class hasn't covered much on granule cells, other than to say they're there. I guess it would be interesting to understand more about how they're resistant to infection. But the blood-brain barrier keeps a pretty tight micro-environment. It seems like any lessons learned might be tough to extrapolate to other systems where the micro-environment can't be so carefully filtered. |

This article just happened to be the top link in the campus newspaper email I got this morning (essentially, today's front-page story). We're one of the top medical research universities, so there's almost always an article on medical research. I saw you guys yakking in the thread Lenas posted and linked this one. I'm an engineer, and not a med student. We design a lot of their toys, but I don't really pay much attention to what they're doing with them. |

Thanks for the link. I'm in a similar position to you- I design drugs and delivery systems, but I'm not on the using end at all. I do about 50% engineering, and 50% molecular biology at this point. |
