Battery life is less than two hours, almost lives on the charger. iPhone 3GS, better than my old 3G but finally dying. What is the best bang for the buck out there right now that an old fogey with fat fingers can find. I swing between iPhone 4S, iPhone5, Samsung s3, and am not looking forward to making this decision. Convince me. |

iPhone 4S. If your contract is expired, you can pick one up for a dollar. It's got a retina display, more power than you'd need, and all of your current app purchases will work on it. |

I <3 my SGS3, but since you're already in the Apple Apposphere, the 4s is the next step. |

I can't imagine ever enjoying an iPhone with fat fingers. Even the iPhone 5 is frustrating to use with my skinny fingers. I suggest something in the 4+ inch range. Look into the Galaxy series if you're interested in Android, or look into the Nokia Lumia 920 if you're interested in Windows (and simplicity). |

You'd have to repurchase any apps if you switched to Windows or Android. That may or may not be an issue. I don't know what all you have. It would still make the iPhone 4S the most cost-effective phone. Using Siri will alleviate a lot of fat-finger problems. |

Thank you all, points well made. I will almost certainly avoid the bells and whistles and go with the 4s sometime this weekend. |

i have a 5. In many ways the 4s is a nicer phone - the 5 is taller (which is nice) and thinner/lighter, which is a matter of preference; some find it feels a little too insubstantial. But most importantly - in use it feels no faster than the 4s, and it genuinely is made of much much worse materials. The 4s has a very sturdy steel surround; the 5 is anodised aluminium, which looks and feels beautiful, but is too fragile for a phone. I love my 5. But a 4s would have been as good, cheaper, and more robust. |

Thank you SuiNeko, that makes me feel even better. I went and purchased my 4s last night. Finished transferring from my old phone this morning. Now trying to decide what apps I want to get for it that I couldn't have on the 3GS. Any suggestions? |

My standard list: Skype Dropbox Spotify Facebook Messenger iBooks Deliveries (for tracking packages) Articles (Wikipedia reader) Amazon Tapatalk (for Glade-ery) Pocket (article reader) YouTube Snapseed (great photo editor) Trailers (for finding out movie times near me) Tumblr Mailbox (best alt mail app out there) Speedtest (always handy to have) Netflix Hulu Plus Pages (best word processor) IMDb Dungeon Hunter 4 (great Diablo clone) Puzzle Quest 2 (fun fantasy/RPG match-three) I've a lot more (I shudder to think how much I've spent on apps), but these seem the most universally useful. |
