They recently took two out of three with the royals, too. Based on their runs scored vs allowed, they are underperforming this year by about 10 games. Which isn't too say there aren't reasons for that underperformance, but I do think once they are in the playoffs, anything can happen. The wildcard spot is the scariest... That one game playoff means a single bad day and you're out.

Yeah, your boys are drastically under-cutting their Pythag; though to be honest it likely means a major late run, as they almost always even out.

There's obviously some truth to that, but they had the best run differential well before their late run. At the All-Star break, the Jays were 45-46, with 486 runs scored and 404 runs allowed. While they've performed better since then, they were grossly underforming in the first 60% of the season, too.

(Post All-star, the jays have gone 31-11, with 244 runs scored and 129 runs allowed.)

Being swept by the Dodgers has shaken my morale. I don't think the Giants will make it to the series this year. Might now I'm suspecting they won't even make the playoffs.

Well, while I'm tempted to crow, I have to remind myself that the EXACT SAME THING happened last year, and your boys won the wild card and went on to win the championship. Looks less likely this year, with the Cubs and Pirates in a pretty good place, but, really, you never know. The boys in blue could swoon, as could the Cubs. We'll see.

Come on. Wild card games start tonight. Thoughts on regular season? Postseason predictions?

AL: Tex @ Toronto
Houston @ KC

Toronto @ KC

NL: WC ChiCubs @ Pitt
Pitt @ STL
NYM @ LAD
LAD @ STL

WS: STL @ KC For their first win since 1985.

Toronto has been amazing, but I am still keeping my Missouri combo for the WS.

Edit: And this is why I don't gamble  Cubs shut out Pitt.......Texas beats Toronto, and Houston beats KC....All road teams winning. Texas and Houston still have their aces, so they are looking pretty good after game 1.

Booyah! Comeback! Also, strangest seventh inning I've ever seen.

And it would appear it will be Toronto @ Kansas City for the ALCS. Which wouldn't have surprised anyone if you'd said it a week ago. Now everyone is kinda surprised.

I wasn't surprised :) I predicted it! rofl

The NL totally surprised me. I never thought the Mets were going to play this well. I think they hit a bump in the WS, though. Pitching has been extremely good, but their offense has been the real surprise. I don't think their pitching will suffer much, but I think their offense comes back to Earth at some point.

Well yeah, but when the Jays were down 2-0 to Texas and KC was down 2-1 to Houston and losing game four 6-2, you had to think your prediction was going to be wrong...

Well, got the NL completely wrong, but got the WS champ correct. KC wins the WS over NYM 4 games to 1.
Even though the Mets lost in 5 games, it was a pretty decent series. Lots of comebacks by the Royals throughout the post season. A very good team that never gives up and grinds it out. Very deserving of the title this season.

NYM has some great pitching, and should continue to do well going forward. Felt like the ALCS was really the WS, as Toronto seemed like the second best team in baseball this season (and at times, they appeared to be the best in baseball).

It was definitely a fun series. Sad that baseball is over until spring, but, that's the cycle of life.

I made my prediction earlier this year when I said your boys would progress to their Pythag.

What do I win?

I am very disappointed. I was hoping enough Mets and Royals would drown in the dugouts in a freak monsoon that neither could field a full team.

If Taly comes back to this thread: How do you feel about the Jays season results? What do you make of the front office changes so far? Do you think they will be big players in the off season and bring back top players such as Price?

It appears to me, they are going to need to restock their pitching staff. I believe Price, Buehrle, and Estrada are all FA's (Buehrle may retire at this point? And he was like the 6th starter at the end) So it looks like they will likely need to sign at least one pitcher if not two to fill the void, unless they have some players coming up that can meet that need.

Also in consideration, some of their top players are going to be FAs in 2017. Dickey, Bautista, Encarnacion, and Cecil.

Do you think they will start spending the money to restock while they have the window of op? Otherwise, I think they will quickly find themselves back to rebuilding, which given the players they traded away for last season, could be a long haul again.
