Uh, the Cardinals, Dodgers, and Giants are the three NL teams with the most pennants (and subsequent World Series championships). The Cardinals and Giants are tied for pennants at 19, after being in a three-way tie with the Dodgers at 18. They basically are at least one of the eight teams every year. There's a fairly steep drop to the next tier of ballclubs, considering that the Cubs hold fourth place at 10, which should give you some idea of how far back the entire rest of the National League really is. It's only the AL side that was underrepresented from the historically top teams this year. No Yankees, no Red Sox, no Athletics. Just Tigers. |

The Atlanta Braves are 4th on the National League list with 17 pennants, but only one World Series in each home city. They are also the longest continuously active professional sports organization in the United States. They ended the longest postseason streak in baseball this year -- 14 consecutive. They hold the record for most consecutive pennants (8) and are the only team to win 9 out of 10 pennants in a 10 year period. They are traditionally the fourth of the 8 postseason regulars that Shuyung mentions. Between the Braves, Dodgers, Giants, and Cardinals, you have 73 pennants out of 130 possible. The Braves (1871), Dodgers (1883) , Giants (1883), and Cardinals (1882) also happen to be four of the oldest organizations in the sport. |

For those wondering, the discrepancy in stats is due to Khross counting things from before the World Series era, whereas I didn't. Khross's measure would modify the Dodgers and Giants numbers as well, although doesn't materially change the point. |

Shuyung: Good point, but I think that still leaves the Braves with 14 Pennants since 1884. In any case, we can add two each to the Giants and Dodgers for 21 a piece, which incidentally gives them 77 of 130 possible pennants. I had not noticed you left out the seasons prior to the World Series in 1884. |

but they aren't the yanks or the braves, who seem to have the largest number of fair weather fans outside their media market. |

Good for them, I farking hate the Cards. That being said, I want to see the Royals win. Mostly so their owners will sell off the high value players and field a team that is only...so so next year. |

I find your lack of Giant's fandom disturbing. <force choke applied> <drops Raell to the floor gasping> You know, I never thought Vader gave a hoot about that Officer's disbelief in the force. He just wanted to mess with the guy for his insubordination. |

Having grown up in the KC area, this has been quite a neat October. I wasn't even a U.S. Citizen during the I70 series. Whoever wins, I will still say this is one of my favorite playoff series, to date. |
