This one is on Cricket. A Sri Lankan bowler has just done something significant, I gather in "taking" 800 Test wickets. But, damn if I can tell from this article:

Quote:
{snipped a description of the historic importance of the match ...}

Needing three wickets in the second innings to reach the magic 800 mark, (Muttiah Muralitharan) removed Yuvraj Singh with the last ball of the fourth day, and trapped fellow off-spinner Harbhajan Singh lbw early on day five.

With paceman Malinga liable to blast the Indian tail away at any time, Murali had to wait for his moment - having lbw and stumping appeals turned down, while seeing VVS Laxman, India's last recognised batsman, run out off his bowling.

Last pair Ojha and Ishant Sharma resisted for 15 overs, but the safe hands of Jayawardene, one of the most reliable slip fielders of the modern era, fell to his left and pouched his 157th Test catch to begin the Sri Lankan celebrations.

:blink:

I know, most of baseball and American football writing will be incomprehensible overseas, but this one just struck me as really funny. I can kind of tell what happened, but really, I wouldn't wanna take a quiz on it.

I spent many hours one night about a year ago trying to figure out cricket. I was trying to appreciate what Sachin Tendulkar, a man who appears to be portrayed as nothing short of a god of the sport, has been and still is doing.

I mostly figured it out... but they do some unusual things in that game!

Though in my defense it has been awhile since that night, this article confounds me nonetheless. :(

Glad I'm not the only one. I think there's even a cricket league of some sort here in SoCal. I should probably get a few cans of Fosters or Red Stripe and take in a game some time.
