Have a great time. Watching the Championship Games at a friends today I wasn't confident either of the winning teams will dominate the Superbowl, which should make it a good game.

Guess I have to pull for the Packers now.......I was pretty indifferent about 3 of the teams in the playoffs (liked the Bears slightly more than the Jets or Pack), but I absolutely hate the Steelers.

The people in the NFL ripping Cutler for quitting is pretty crazy. Hate is flying left & right from players.

Least it's entertaining.

Ya know, I have to say that when I noticed him sitting down, the first words to my wife, in a totally macho, arm-chair, Sunday-afternoon QB kind of way, was "He's a pussy." ESPN Sports Radio today was inviting callers to phone in and discuss whether Cutler "could be called a word I can't say on the radio." The male and female perspective on this is completely different, by the way - I say he should have played, but my wife says, well, he was hurt, what is he supposed to do? He's supposed to get an injection, a crutch, anything to play - or at least, after he's taken out, to look like he wants to play. I got none of that feeling from him sitting on the bench. A laid back style of leadership can be OK, but not in this case. He should have been out there coaching and encouraging Haley or whatever his name is to get them to the SB (where Cutler probably would have played). I have a strong feeling he had already thrown in the towel after the Packers' first drive or something.

The official word is that's a Grade II MCL injury. He wouldn't have seen the Superbowl and standing would put serious questions as to whether or not he played next season. He was placed on the bench by the Coaches and Trainers. That said, he still sucks.

Heh. Well, I just read that he couldn't take a cortisone shot because of his diabetes, so, that's something. And a torn MCL is probably 50/50 for him to come back and actually be effective, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

I mean, it's funny, because I do objectively look at football and think that it's too violent sometimes; but when a guy makes a (probably smart) decision to stay out in hopes being able to actually walk in his old age, I get on him for it.

Maybe it's just fun to make fun of Cutler. Ray Ratto points out that he has become someone that everyone loves to hate, for some reason.

Even if he was benched (not allowed to play), his team was playing for a chance to play in the Superbowl, and he was sitting on the bench, alone, feeling sorry for himself, instead of keeping his head in the game, helping the 3rd stringer, who had zero snaps in practice, understand what he was doing and just generally providing moral support.

His body language on the sideline was screaming "I DON'T GIVE A ****".

Philip Rivers played a game and a half with an MCL that was completely torn. Just sayin'...

Listened to more sports radio on the way home tonight. There are apparently some personality issues with him. I remember when he played for Denver against the Chargers, and he and Phil Rivers had some jawing going on. It all starts to become clear.

Actually, it's funny - Rivers kind of came out and stuck up for Cutler today:

I'm not a Cutler fan, I don't like his attitude and I think his QB skills are exaggerated.

That said, he's still the best QB the Bears have had in a long time. What do they want from him? Would they rather risk being able to play in the future, so they can go back to having a Rex Grosman-esque QB take up the reins?

Would that make them feel better? So they can say "Well, we sure rode that kinda good QB we had into early retirement on that AFC championship game!"

You have my condolences having to live with Cutler for the foreseeable future...

Hard to say that when he's just stating his own opinion of how Jay was acting. I have to say, I agree. Once he was off the field you could already see on his face that he was checked-out mentally.

I finally was able to explain this to my wife. She, of course, took the "he was hurt" position, while I went with the "he's a pussy" position. But tonight I pointed out to her that it was not even so much a matter of him not being able to play physically, but a question of leadership. He wasn't leading even after he was hurt, and that's the thing. A good QB - a good leader - would have been doing everything in his power to help the team win and get to the Super Bowl, even if it was possible (or likely) that he wouldn't play in it. A nice shot of him cheering at one of the two TD's thrown by his (second!) backup would have gone a long way to improving his image, but we didn't see that.

While I can't say anything about what he did or didn't do while on the side line, he had no choice about going back into the game. The team/doctors said he couldn't go back in.

MnM this morning says Cutler had a pain shot during half time and told the Bears he wanted to try and continue. After the first 3 and out, he told them he couldn't push off the leg and they took him out.

On the DP show yesterday, the 3rd string QB that finished the game supported Cutler, saying he was giving him pep talks and supporting him in between possessions, and that Cutler was extremely tough.

I don't know much about the guy, but it sounds like toughness is not in question. I've had a partial MCL tear, and I know what it entails. I can't imagine the guy even trying to go back out in the first place.
