Maybe I'm late to the party on this one. I am not sure when this actually happened. I believe I am hearing that there is some controversy over this goal. Now I hadn't heard of him until I saw this highlight the other night during a Flyers game, but to me this seems like a great goal. I don't know if it's because of the spin move or just because the goalie was beat, but there is complaining about this. Was the spin move for show, was it to pick up speed, or was it just to confuse the goalie. Are there unwritten rules to hockey shootouts that this particular move broke? Interested on others' takes on this. Regardless, this was a neat goal to watch. |

People just thought he was showboating, that's all. It was his first NHL game and his first shootout. |

It's definitely a little bit of a showboating move. Never, in my years of playing or watching hockey, have I seen such a unnecessary move. There are dekes and fancy maneuvers that actually change things, but this did nothing. Ultimately, he beat the goalie with a snapshot, as a result of a fake slapshot. My only guess is that a goalie who sees someone do this automatically thinks the guy is going to do a deke, since he's showing in his approach that he's trying something fancy. Instead of doing a deke, he shot it five-hole. Even that is stretching it. I don't think this move impacted anything in the play. It was very unnecessary, but he scored, so I can't talk. I wouldn't call it controversial. I think it just has more to do with the fact that it was his first game. Doing a 360 in the neutral zone is definitely different. Honestly, it's not like it was some sick move. A 360 with the puck isn't that challenging to do, especially for someone at the NHL level. It just looked cool to the crowd, especially since he scored the game-winner. |

He could have done it three feet away from the goal... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7NtnoIURPw&feature=fvw |
