Happy Opening Day, fellow fans! Hope Springs eternal, and even the lowly Pirates and Astros are playing without a loss!

Unless one's team is stuck in a division with the perennial top-two salary-spenders in all of MLB.

If Tampa Bay can make it happen, so can Toronto.

Despite the snakebitten injury-filled start this past month, it is a very good day!

Good news for AL Easters: The Yankees just aren't the Yankees this year, at least on paper.

Bad news for AL Easters: The Red Sox may make up for that anyway.

The Orioles suffer like the Jays do, just more so. I seem to recall them frequently finishing in last place in their division, but still over .500...because their division is ridiculous. Placed in other divisions, the Jays and Orioles could easily have been playoff bound several times in the last decade.

And Rynar, yes, what Tampa has done a couple times with so little is amazing. Their GM is a genius.

As a side point, I want Roy Halladay back. :(

Ah **** it. Might as well wish for Joe Carter, Robbie Alomar, Devon White, John Olerud, Tony Fernandez, and Paul Molitor while all in their prime. At least there are memories!

For 14 teams, it will be over in two weeks.
Your Flyers get to keep playing for a while...

Clap, clap, clap-clap-clap, clap-clap-clap, clap, clap.

I greatly fear that the Dodgers are really gonna stink up the place this year, but I can also see being pleasantly surprised. We'll see.

So, yes, Happy Opening Day, everyone. Even you hockey fans! ;)

Why such Phillie hate? I mean aside from the obvious fact that they are going to dominate this year....

I like both the Phillies and the Braves. Simply because they were fun to beat in 1992-1993. (The Phillies fans who came to Toronto for the games were a lot of fun.)

The rank slightly below the Yankees on my list of teams to hate and slightly above the Mets; which is to say, they should cease to exist by violent means.

They may dominate the NL, but the Red Sox will then dominate them in the World Series! ;)

But why? They haven't been that good for a verrrry long time. I can understand the Yankee hate, but why hate a team that, up until 2008-9, hadn't won a World Series since 1980.

Honestly? The Phillies had 3 decades of really obnoxious fans. 2008 just made it worse ...

Go Bucs!

Quick random facts...
Pittsburgh's total team salary in 1997: $ 9,071,666
Albert Belle's salary in 1997: $10M (and Frank Thomas made another 7.5 that year for the ChiSox)

PS ARod almost beat Pittsburgh last year. He made $33M and Pittsburgh's total was 34.9.
