A lot of hate for one of the most influential and ironic members of the NFL. The Raiders have had a rough couple of years. Its too bad he passed away when it seems like they are starting to turn it around.

Sorry Hokanu, the hate was earned.

a) 49er faithful, just a reason to oppose the Raiders, not actually hate them.
b) live in Sacramento, the town he tried to bilk out of 50 million to stay in the running in consideration when he moved the team. He had already signed preliminary paperwork with LA.
c) have watched the man for many years, many of his chances were taken because he lost his temper and did something stupid, then had to backfill. A lot of them didn't work out, some did.
d) never did care for the dirty football played by the Raiders for so long - at his instigation.

Other than that he was probably a hell of a guy. Probably still is.

He started going looney (in terms of the way he ran the team) in the last 10 years or so.

I don't blame him as much as I blame his family and advisers for not coaxing him to relinquish control of the team.

And just like that, the Oakland Raiders became a relevant sports franchise.

I grew up a Raider fan. My dad was a Raider fan, and thus, I was born into it.

I was a huge Snake fan, and Ray Guy went to college in my home town. I adored Biletnikoff.

I admired Al's determination, and respect his cavalier ways. BUT, he made Raider football so painful the past decade, I swore I would never watch another game until he was dead or left the business.

So, RIP Mr. Davis. I appreciate all the good you did to the game of football and the Raiders in your earlier years. And now that you are no longer making a mess of the team I love, I can return to watching them with pride once again.

No sweat Micheal It's like when someone picks on your brother. You tell em to knock it off.. but you pick on them all the time! I was often critical of how he ran things...

Yeah the past 9 years have been tough... I really think he lost his edge awhile ago but he was pretty remarkable for 4 decades. Hell, there were times I wanted to drive to Oakland myself and tell him he's doing it wrong but you've got to respect how dedicated he was to his way of doing things.

I am sad that a family and organization lost one of their members and I am sad at the passing of a Raider Legend... But I am very interested in seeing what the future holds.
