First talk to your neighbor, then escalate as appropriate. I solved this problem, post discussion, by smearing the dog **** all over the front of the offending neighbor's door and house.

Closure to this situation has been achieved, though not as expected.

Council member that I had emailed contacted the local police chief. (I helped the contractor who remodeled both of his bathrooms, so he knew me) Police chief contacted his "Community relations officer" and gave him the following instruction (copied word for word from his email):

Quote:
Contact the dog owner and put a stop to this. Cite the owner if you have to.

The officer visited the owner and found out that the dog had recently been put down due to old age.

So problem resolved, though certainly not in the way I would have wished.

It leaves me wondering though if the owner was not entirely truthful in the reason for which the dog was put down. Remember I had mentioned that a handful of nights prior to the dog being put down, Oonagh and I heard a car screech to a stop out front of our house followed by labored barking of the dog. I have a sneaking suspicion that the dog did get hit and was probably lamed up or hurt too badly and this is the reason they put it down.

Regardless, it was a strange close to the story and at least there will be no more poopy in my front yard. Unless they get another dog, I'm sure.

Hmm I was going to suggest putting down the owner and retraining the dog. But you know I'm biased in favor of animals. ;)

Leave out some anti-freeze.

Someone here in Washington just went to jail for putting antifreeze in their yard, resulting in several of the neighbors pets dying.

Antifreeze now contains a bittering agent that makes it extremely unappetizing to animals. It really is downright terrible. I'd rather siphon diesel.
