I had to go to Columbus (again) because the city is still down three technicians

That means I have to shove my local calls off upon the other local technician (once he feels like calling me back) set a new set of appointments, drive to Columbus, pick up parts in the city then do my calls and drive home. So I did 6 calls including 3 calls for a certain retail chains cash registers and was there until 9:30 pm, largely because local management and Middle Eastern Tech Support insisted that I try to fix Hand Scanner issues that were not part of my original dispatches, or rather I had to prove they weren't messing up due to the fact that I had changed system boards. The problem is that every time METS has you try something you have to restart these ancient machines and reload the POS (double meaning accepted) software, a process that takes about ten minutes. the METS don't like to remain on line for the restart so you have to call them back or wait for them to call you back depending on their mood.

And for the record both of them did turn out to be scanner related. I have sneaking suspicion from my time in retail that good scanners were swapped from broken registers, replaced with broken scanners and people just "forgot" about it.

The Point of Sale acronym is hilarious to me. One of NCR's products back in the '90s was "RealPOS." Who clears these things in marketing?
