6 months ago I got formally reprimanded for wearing jeans to work (dressy jeans, heels, blouse). Today, a colleague walks into a meeting where we are interviewing a potential student worker and she is wearing tennis shoes, blue jean shorts, and a t-shirt (because she says she is going to the gym during her lunch hour after the interview)....and my boss says not a word to her.

I can't say a word or I would be "that guy."

Screw that, talk to the boss behind closed doors and let them know you don't appreciate the double standard.

Double standards (whether perceived or real) FTL.

I disagree with Lenas. Perhaps the boss already spoke with your colleague behind closed doors. Unless your boss reprimanded you publically, I would keep my mouth shut as your boss may have already addressed it with your colleague.

I wanted to say something, Lenas, but I was playing it safe just in case, like Foamy suggested, my boss says something to her in private.

If I didn't know for sure that she wasn't reprimanded privately, I'd be inclined to bite my tongue about it. There's a pretty good chance that your boss just didn't want to reprimand someone in front of an interviewee.

My boss has too much tact to do that in front of someone else, but I didn't see her make a move towards her after the interview was over either....
We have a lot going on at work right now, and honestly, she doesn't have time to draw up paper work to reprimand someone...I just wish she would have said something to her at least. It's kind of unfair and really irritating.
I'm so petty, I know.

You could ask your boss if it would be acceptable for you to do that. Just mention that given your history, you wanted to be respectful and not make assumptions.

Well, the truth is, I'm afraid to ask...which is why I am ranting about it on the internet instead of doing something about it IRL. ;)

If it's a one off incident, just let it pass.

If you see it again, then it's probably worth mentioning.

Think about it this way. What good will come from calling your boss on something? Especially when you don't know for sure if she has taken any action?

My "Free Internet Advice™" would be to let it go (unless you notice a pattern).

I think I'll take that advice. Thanks. I'll leave my frustrations contained in these parantheses (*&^%$#@!@#$%^&*) :)

I agree with this. If it starts occuring more often than once in a blue moon it's likely the boss is not taking action.

If it's rare, the boss is probably doing so.
