After being unemployed since November of 2008, dozens of interviews, losing jobs that I didn't even get to start because of the economy. Companies going under that I had just interviewed with.

Finally a new job that I can almost guarantee won't disappear and will be there for as long as I want to work there. Starting next week I'll not only have a job, but I'll have a job that I've wanted for years, the (current) ultimate goal of my re-entry into college:

I've just been hired as a National Park Ranger.

Training starts next week, and I don't think I've ever been this excited about a job in my entire life. Now if I only had money to go out and celebrate.

Congratulations!

Stay out of the trees up in the mountains. I remember getting whacked by some ogres up there.

For the first 28 weeks, people will be coming up and asking you for SoW, and you'll probably be frustrated that you can't help them. Hang in there, it'll get better.

ROFL! That was funny right there.

Congrats, sir! If you don't find it too revealing, what Park will you be ranging?

Forgot to respond to this one, but I'll be ranging and doing tour guidey stuff at Timpanogos Cave.

Hoping to be there until I finish my geology degree then move to one of the southern Utah parks; such as Zion's, Arches, or Glen Canyon (Lake Powell). Those places, especially Zion's, have a lot of competition for the jobs, so I'll need some experience and to get a better government ranking. Still not sure exactly how the ranks work, but I should be starting out as a level 4, and realistically need to get a couple more to have a decent chance for a year round job at another park.

I went to Zion's when I was 12, truly a beautiful place.

Oh, my, can I get any greener? Maybe Romulan green? In a previous life, I was a caver, so this is like a double-whammy of things I would love to do.

Careful once you ding Level 5, though, they may make you do corpse-runs. :D
