I don't know if I'd go that far. Both Khross and Kaffis experiences were shipping related. Newegg is still an excellent resource for computer shopping for various reasons. If nothing else, just reading reviews, etc... but keeping this all in perspective, nothing I've heard would make me avoid them altogether. I can't imagine any online only retailer has a perfect record for resolving shipping disputes...

With Kaffis experience, it's definitely deceitful, but once you are aware of the situation, It's probably something you can work around.

Besides Newegg and Amazon, where else can you to on purchase a complete set of system components ?

We'll see if escalating to a manager resolves my shipping issues. As I said, I'm not outraged that I'm getting my stuff later than I thought I would. I'm upset that I paid extra for no benefit because I was poorly informed.

So it's not like resolution requires a UPS guy to show up on my doorstep on Saturday, contrary to Newegg's contract (though, that'd be pretty damn impressive, nonetheless). Resolution simply requires that my waste of money be resolved with a sufficient refund or other recompense. It also requires acknowlegement of the issue that caused this perfectly legitimate confusion, and a sincere promise to have somebody look into making the issue less confusing for others.

That's not beyond feasible. As Midgen said, expecting a perfect shipping record out of somebody who deals exclusively through shipping with third parties is beyond unreasonable. What's reasonable is expecting adequate resolution of those issues when they occur.

I'll add that Khross' issues weren't really resolved adequately, as, to my knowlege, no offer to reimburse him the expense of having to buy a replacement part out of pocket since the shipping shennanigans took it out of RMA terms occurred.

But it's still too early to write my dissatisfaction off as inevitable.

Not the cheapest place, but I have a FRY's Electronics a few miles from my house.

And on top of that, I am tired of buying parts here and there... I am going to either ibuypower or cyberpowerpc next time, buy a whole system, let them build and test it and give me a warranty.

My thing is, I still do incremental upgrades, and I build to plan on doing so.

Thus, not only is it important that I know exactly what's in my computer (though, the boutiques have gotten much better about this than the big builders of 10 years ago were), but also, the warranty isn't really of benefit, since I plan on cracking it and doing my own maintenance and upgrades anyways. Is it a bit more hassle? Yeah, but more often than not, it's something minor and quick, so the headache of worrying about it is made up for by the speed of a 15 minute diagnosis and on-site repair and getting on with my life.

In addition, I find the process is good for me, professionally, as it keeps me sharp and up to date on the tech. I tend to mostly tune out all the nitty gritty hardware news when I'm not shopping, because it tends to burn a hole in my pocket. So tuning in, as it were, for a month or two every couple years keeps me relevant.

Finally, I get MS software for free via MSDNAA through my job. So I'm not even paying OEM prices, and I'm not getting shovelware demo bundles that I have to strip off.

Fry's locally carries some adequate hardware for system building, but they are usually behind a rev at the very least on things like motherboards, they are prone to re-selling returns as new, and their prices are through the roof. And I didn't even mention the Best Buy drop-outs that work there.. (erm.. wait.. )

Yes, but it gratifies the "I WANT IT NOW!" bug. :)

I actually laughed at one of the Fry's workers when they tried to tell me that ECS motherboards are better than Asus, Gigabyte, and MSI.

I actually told the clerk that I may have fallen off of a truck, but it was not yesterday. :)
