Note to self: Check football schedules before deciding in advance to stay overnight in Cincinatti without reservations.

Cinci was packed with Cheeseheads sporting Wisconsin accents and every hotel was booked solid.

Being in Ohio or being amongst so many Green Bay fans?

Ohio isn't all that bad, some perfectly nice people live there.

She's also in Kentucky, anyway. :D

Kentucky is where Ohioans go when they're so **** up they don't know what else to do with themselves. When they think they're doing OK again, they move back. I can't count the number of people I've met that had completely jacked-up lives and either were "moving to Kentucky soon" or "just moved back from Kentucky."

Woke up today in Valdosta.

(I'm sure there should be a country song with that line in it somewhere.)

Drury hotels are nice.

Your road-trip-fu is stronger than mine. I took one look at the distance from here to Halifax and jumped on a plane instead. Have fun in Disney and any other parts of Florida you might visit that Disney hasn't bought yet!

Bah! You should have said hi when you came through (I assume you came through or near Chattanooga). :)

Drury is awesome, but Valdosta sounds like it should be in Russia.

The hotel situation might have had something to do with a little block party going on that weekend.

People I can do without: Drivers who go slower than you while in the lane in front of you, but who speed up while you pull into the left lane to pass them.

This is every single driver in both Ohio and Washington state.

More people need to use cruise control.

I tend to set the CC at 10 km/h over the speed limit, and coast in the right lane (or middle lane if there are three lanes.) I try not to ever turn off the CC until absolutely necessary, so my lane-changing is solely to maintain speed.

Since my speed isn't changing, it's very very obvious when others are speeding up and slowing down.

Hey now! I don't do this!

Well, to be honest, most of my driving involves creeping along at 5mph in the epic grind, so which lane I'm in is meaningless, but yea, people around here tend to drive in the left lane when they don't need to.

What I find even more annoying is people who get in the HOV (Carpool) lane just because they feel entitled to be there, regardless of the speed of the traffic in the lanes around them.

Seriously people.. if you want to drive 50mph in a 60mph zone, MOVE RIGHT.

On a side note, "left lane camping" is considered a moving violation in Washington, and the State Patrol claims to have dramatically increased enforcement.

I have noticed down here, that Mexicans slowpoke incredibly. If there is a car with a Mexican license plate, 9 times out of 10 it will be at least 10 mph below the speed limit, and accelerate from a stop as if it were a tractor trailer, no matter how small a car it actually is.

I'm the same way, though I will occasionally accelerate out of courtesy to expedite passing somebody who's coming up on a slower-moving vehicle in their lane.

Seriously, though. Accelerating and decelerating all the time is awful for fuel economy. And around here, half the time I look in to see who's doing the crazy stomp, weave, slam on the brakes, dodge into a new lane, stomp on the gas again.. kind of driving, it's the kind of person who makes me go "really? You've got money to burn on that, for the extra 1 mph it nets you, where I pull up to you at the light on the exit ramp?" young blue-collar/college types.

I tend to run my cruise a little closer to +5 as i can't afford the suspension even a 10 over ticket would give me.

You won't get your license suspended for a 10mph over ticket.. unless you've already got a lot of points on your license.

Taly was quoting in Canuckdian units. 10 km/h is closer to 6 mph. I usually run around 68-72 while cruising in 65's, and 74 or 75 in our blissful new 70 mph stretches, depending on traffic flow.

Remembering my roommate (long, long time ago) getting fed up with slowpoke traffic and moving over to the far left lane to get ahead of the traffic, hit the gas, then pull over to the side of the road almost immediately (I had been reading). The tap tap of the officer's knuckles on the window explained everything.

I kept reading. There was nothing right that needed to be said right then.

@Talya: Yes, using cruise control is important. Lane cruising, however, is about equally annoying.
