I was out shopping for groceries and while perusing the honey crisps currently in the market a little girl, about four, asked me if I was Santa Claus. Her mother, embarrassed, took her by the hand and led her away. In parting the mother (young enough to be my daughter) looked at me and said "You do look like Santa, kind of."

I had on black slacks and a red floral Hawaiian shirt.

I went home and shaved off my beard. I'm just not in the mood for that this year.

New pic later. When I get around to it.

I re-read the first sentence a few times because I read it to mean that you were out shopping and were in the market for a little girl, about four.

No, they may be a bargain to begin with, but they are expensive to maintain and do not hold their value. Sometimes you can't even give them away without it costing you a small fortune.

...

Anyway, nothing wrong with Santa Claus. One of the most beloved -people?- of all time.

I receive several requests annually to play Santa, for free, supplying my own costume, having to take off work to do what they want. I choose not to do this. I have grown tired of turning folks down. A friend of mine does do the Santa gig, and he says he makes about 12-15 k every year doing so. It is a business, not one I'm in, and I choose not to give away time, effort, and resources. Maybe after I retire and have the free time, but not right now.

That's not the same thing as being mistaken for Santa Claus. Looking like Santa Claus is a great boon in other ways as well. When I was in Texas I was told to find an electrician whose description was "looks like Santa Claus" At least I knew I had the right guy.
