Post subject:  What I Hate About the Adult Industry

Whenever the subject of criticizing the porn/adult industry comes up, it's usually about how "demeaning" it is to either men or (especially) women. But my problem with it isn't that.

Some friends of mine and I were talking about this tonight, and I brought up the point that the adult industry in general gives people the wrong impression of who should be having sex and who should not.

The message that is conveyed is that if you are not a well-endowed hunk or a buxom, well-proportioned woman, then you should not be having sex (further re-enforced by the fact that sex involving people that do not fit this image is labeled as "kink" or "fetish"). Wanna know where feelings of inadequacy and performance anxiety come from? It's from that aforementioned image.

And it's not just limited to movies. Think about the sex toys that are out there. The dildos are usually massive, and on the male side, you have the ideal tight and perfectly symmetrical replicas of female parts.

Are you overweight, flat-chested, not hung like Ron Jeremy, or have some abnormally shaped part of your reproductive anatomy? Well, you're a freak and you shouldn't be having sex (or at least, not "normal" sex). That's essentially what the industry is saying.

Normal sex is boring anyways >=D

Well, I was ready to add a nice opinion, then read Lydiaa's post ... *blink* ... Do tell ...

Anyway, it's not even so much the "who" should be having sex, as the "how." Even just their normal sex really has little to do with how real people have sex, but that rarely comes across. Gives a lot of people a weird sense of what sex is about, I think, if they're exposed to it at an impressionable age (say, up to about 50 or so :) ).

Gee, you're supposed to have sex in brightly lit anywhere and so that there are good camera angles to see what is going on.

Right . . .

Only if you like to make your own amature... >=D

Porn is just that, a fantasy. Anyone who takes it as reality have bigger worries than their sex life.

Hmmm....porn versus the real thing...

Give me the real thing any day!! I think I could teach those porn babes a thing or two, and I'm not adverse to learning a couple new things myself!

Interesting rant.

How much sex you get is mostly correlated to how much effort you put into getting it.

It's also correlated to your public exposure. If you talk to 10,000 women, then you are a womanizer by definition and sex is easy to get. If you usually sit in your apartment and watch tv instead of going out, then sex is hard to get.

Actually porn kinda messed me up for a while. About 5th grade I found my fathers stash and watched it. It featured John Holmes a fair deal, and I thought that he was supposed to be "average" which left me with a huge insecurity thing for a while until I found out he was a freak of nature.

That and I thought the height of romance was 8 guys working a woman like a Nascar pit crew...

Exactly my point.

It also messes up your partner's view of sex. When the time finally comes to have sex, both of you will have all of these porn-based expectations about how well-endowed or long-lasting/flexible/etc your partner should be, and if they fall short of this, the experienced is ruined (or at least instantly downgraded).

Don't you guys get the horribily animated rabbit video? We also get anatomy lessons in year 7 (seperate gender classes) about what should be expected and how to use protection and stuff.

I had NO sex education in school Of course, this was back in the Midwest in the 60s and 70s. I don't think anyone had sex back then, as far as I could tell.

If your teachers showed you this... Kudos to them.

Other than rubbing the fact in your face, what exactly is that bunny animation supposed to accomplish?

Uh, you mean other than the fact that it's just a novelty song with a cute animated video?

Oh, sex education right after it, so I thought it was supposed to actually teach something.
