Aside from the previously posted Engagement Thing, a Road Trip happened. From Vegas we drove to Berlin Ichthyosaur State Park. There's a Ghost Town up there called Berlin, as well as one of the largest concentrations of Ichthyosaur Fossils in the US. The Whole Album is here: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/lordmoo ... osaur%20SP Selected Photos: The outside of the Stamp Mill The Stamp Mill. Used for crushing the ore that came out of the mountain. The Cam that ran the stamps. The remains of the boiler The inside of one of the houses on site Can of Sierra Beer Blasting Cap Tins They sure did love their syrup. The miners used Carbide Lamps There were people there well after 1910 or thereabouts when the mine closed down. This is a kerosene hand warmer with "Made in Occupied Japan" stamped on it. Broken Down Model A The Fossils: I also did some stacked star trail photos up there, but the moon was super full and bright. So they're not stunning. |

And the final stop was the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Which was closed. But I still got a few good pics. |

Nice pics! I've spent some time up in those parts, seen completely different things! Didn't know about the Munitions Museum or the Bristlecone forest. Those both sound pretty cool. Did you come back through Panamint Valley? There's a resort (well, one building with some rooms) up there that for some reason I've always wanted to stay at. Oh, and, are those HDR photos, at least of the forest? |

Everything in the 3rd post down is HDR. Panamint is off SR190, a bit further south. We took SR168 across the mountains which is where the Forest thingy is. Unfortunately, the road to the actual forest was closed for "winter" or something. So we had to content ourselves with the scenic view afforded by being ~10000 feet up and looking at Yosemite. Super awesome view up there. I think the munitions museum is fairly new. It wasn't there when I was working up in Hawthorne ~15 years or so ago. |

Just by way of comparison. Here is the frozen lake image from my Cell Phone (Cort was taking pics too.) And here is the HDR image I took. The Panorama of the Big Tree did something weird to the top of it. And the HDR version |
