...Canned. F_ck you and your exclusive club after the merger. May your ship continue to sink with you still on board. I'm glad I'm not a part of it any longer. |

That sucks man. While I am sure you are glad to put the stupid **** behind you, losing a job is rough. Time for better things. |

Not that Lenas is suggesting anything, but if some people just happen to fall down repeatedly in dark alleyways, you were with us at the time. |

Thanks guys. It's frustrating. I started with a start-up company that went through many ups and downs. And it was on its biggest upswing yet last year, poised for some extremely major things. And because of that, a slightly larger company decided to acquire us. As such, we were never really viewed as truly part of the team, being the outsiders coming in (and the fact they were headquartered in a different state) and having to fall under a new regime. All the work we had done to bring some extremely awesome and new tech to the networking world was shelved (seriously, the kind of stuff that when shown to investors and other techies at trade shows they'd crap their pants with excitement). The good product we had that was also gaining good momentum was hardly marketed. And then they wonder why it had a bad quarter, and decide to gut the entire bare-bones company (we lost a lot of people in the acquisition in the first place). Nothing left but support, but even then I see it as a sinking ship since the techs in the company that acquired us never bothered to care to learn the product. Had we never been acquired, this would be a different tale. A lot of great people, people with real dedication and vision, lost their jobs yesterday. I squarely put the blame on one or two people's heads. They can go to hell and eat a bag of dieshit. I have a couple prospects, one extremely good one that is for a stable company but I'd likely take a big paycut (interview is tomorrow). But with a brand new 6 month old, I don't feel like I can afford to be choosy. |

Paycuts really suck I took one back in January. My company lost the contract I was working at, and the best paying option for me was still over a $2 an hour cut... I've been lucky and managed to work OT every week except once since January, so I've been staying the same pay, but its hard mentally to work so much... Hope you find something soon! |

Good luck in the interview. I'm sorry that you were let go, and that the work you did wasn't recognized. |

Best of luck going forward, Ogre. Avoid teaming up with those evil dark elves, though. Those bastids will stab you in the back! |

Well, the pay is less but they gave me exactly what I asked for. So I'm happy. I sign the new-hire paperwork tomorrow. But I'm most stoked that it's for a company I've definitely heard of and one that is far more stable. I'll happily take a paycut for stability. |

So much for the games, books or movies you might have been able to catch up on... Still, a day of pay is better than a day of play. |

I'll take a day of play haven't had one in several months. |

Yeah, more play would have been nice except for the worrying about finding a job part and that staying home means watching my 6 month old (which I love doing, but it means hardly any play). But it also means extra money from the severance I got. I got 8 weeks of severance coming, and I know exactly where it's going to go: all on 33 black on roulette in Vegas, baby! Nah, but it will help with bills and the solar panels I am getting installed in the next few weeks. Yeah, Numbuk is going green. I can pretend to be doing it for the environment when in reality it's more about sticking it to the power company. |

If you haven't already, you might want to do some research on the toxicity of the solar panel manufacturing processes. You might also want to research the actual expected life span of the panels you are considering. How much power output will they have in 10 years? 20 years? And also, you might want to make sure the panels you acquire are not considered toxic waste when you have to dispose of them once they are no longer efficient enough to do what you want them to do... |

If I want to have power on my sailboat while cruising I need them. Wind generators don't work when sailing because you are using the wind to move the boat. They don't work when anchored because a good anchorage is protected from the wind. I do have a diesel generator, but I can't carry enough fuel to use it all the time. It also has its own environmental impact. |
