So I had been a contractor at my current job since April. When I was brought on, another person was brought on at the same time for basically the same position.
For the time we have been working together, we had what would amount to a normal co-worker relationship. Joking about normal things, talking about home life and such, even talking of getting together for poker or game nights possibly. She is about 10ish years my senior and has a pretty difficult life. Lots of problems with one of her kids, barely has 2 nickels to rub together, calls from collectors. I've heard it all from her, ***** about anything and everything. But for the life of our contractor-ness, we were friendly as coworkers go.
Well, to make a long story short, I have been hired on F/T and she has not been. It would seem that her attitude has been noticed by my manager and he really wants to just be rid of her.
Now I am the enemy. Perhaps because I didn't discuss my job status with her as the hiring process was started. In honesty, I believed she was being offered the same position as I was and was not inclined to discuss my status with her nor was I asking her about hers. She did not wish to do the same and was prodding me for information about the process as she was other temps (Now hired) from elsewhere in the country on our team. This line of questioning got to the senior tech and then followed directly to my manager. This was also something that probably sunk her chances.
Anyway, she found out I was F/T by not seeing my name on the front desk sign-in sheet (As contractors, we always had to sign in as visitors) on my first day as an employee. That was 2 Mondays ago and she made idle chatter for a few minutes to see if I would tell her that I was now F/T. I told her and since she has found out, she has not spoken a single word to me since Monday Oct. 20th. This is a person who sits directly next to me, whom I had daily conversations with, whom I have sat an eaten lunch with, etc.
Now not a word. No response to my good mornings, not a "Bless you" when I sneeze, not a "Good Night" response to me when I say the same at the end of the day.
Not that I care, she is a sour puss who is constantly complaining and has a terrible first impression on ppl. Oonagh met her one morning when she was driving me to work. In the 1 minute she and my coworker met, Oonagh's impression of her as she told me later that day was "Wow, there is just something negative or off about her"
It is making for a weird existence at work because of the silent treatment...She also hasn't said a word to our manager without him starting the conversation and she has been 'hiding' back in the tech bench area instead of staying at her desk next to me.
What an odd person and I can't wait until her end date...Which looks to be looming closer than she expects since my manager has noticed her sour, detrimental attitude. He told me if she doesn't "knock it off", her contract doesn't have to make it to the end date.
