So, I was blissfully sleeping this morning when the whole house started to shake, accompanied by a loud crack and the dogs started barking, waking me up. I get up and look out the window and what do I see? Almost nothing. Except the copious amounts of rain falling and the occasional flash of light. Thankfully, we put a tarp up on the roof yesterday, so it didn't leak. But I'm fairly certain at least one of those lightning strikes hit our house(the one that woke me up shaking the whole damned house). There were several other close lightning strikes that shook the house, just not as much. And they were **** loud! I've never heard lightning that loud before. We hardly ever get it around here, either.

After the rain died down(the sun is out right now, bright as can be), my father calls from Portland(dog show and all that) asking how things were because there is(was?) a tornado warning for my neck of the woods. In southern California. **** you, mother nature. I swear to god.

That was quite a show Mother Nature put on this afternoon!! Lightning flashing...thunder crashing...rain pouring down...a flock of robins sitting in the neighbor's tree during a brief lull in the storm...

I sat out on the front porch sipping a glass of wine and enjoying the entertainment until hubby came home from work. Went inside the house, his brother called, and while on the phone with him there was such a crash of thunder it shook the house like an earthquake! Thought the windows were going to shatter! Much fun was had by all! :P

Different strokes for different folks, Raltar. You hate California, I love it and today is one of the reasons why! :)

I actually like the rain. When it isn't threatening to leak through my roof that totally sucks and can't be repaired because we have too many other things on the budget before it. Getting struck by lightning isn't my idea of fun, though. Nor is getting stuck in a tornado(which thankfully didn't hit here, but apparently did on some of the coastal cities down here).

Pshhhh. We get tornados all the time. Come down to Mississippi and THEN go back and complain about the weather....Hahahahaha!!
Seriously. Glad you're ok.

Reroofed the house awhile back. I had let it go to hell over the years and we had a long run of relatively mild winters. One day I thought to myself, you've been very lucky with that roof, its time to reroof and you can afford it, do it. couple big storms last year and now this . . .

So, it is all my fault Raltar. I reroofed and we started getting harder winters again. I am the center of the universe. Sorry about that.

Want our snow?

Sure, just drop it on the west side of the Sierras. We've had a few drought years in a row, that much snow would be welcome up where it belongs.

Tornadoes are really rare. We have quakes, though. Lots of those.

I mostly don't like the political climate. The lack of Fall/Spring(at least in my neck of the woods) doesn't help. And it is expensive as all hell. People are rude. They don't know how to drive. It smells.

Man, it's like you live in LA or something! Come live downtown if you want expensive, rude, and smelly.

We had a huge crash of thunder yesterday about noon, here in downtown. I suspect one of the buildings got hit. I didn't realize the winds and/or tornadoes were so bad down on the coast. My mom lives in the area (south L.A. County) that had a tornado warning. Felt like she was living back in Kansas.

Today's storm should be fun. Good thing I have my Drizabone bush hat, thanks to you folks.

Another great show by Mother Nature today! It hasn't stopped raining all day except for about five minutes, where I actually saw a bit of blue sky! The thunder and lightening started about an hour ago...had quite a nice hail storm, too!

It's something Ohio gets quite right, weather-wise. We get fantastic thunderstorms multiple times a year.

When I flew out there I watched one for about an hour that I later learned was over the Columbus area. Chain lightning is mesmerizing when it isn't right over your head depriving you of sleep.

Heh, no, not yet. Lemme find a camera when I get home tonight.

If you ask nicely, I may put up a picture of my second choice hat... which I bought this weekend. It was half the regular retail price, at an outlet. Sheesh, glad I didn't realize they call it the "Indy" hat. Probably wouldn't have bought it.

I prefer the Drizabone in wind; the Indy hat has already tried to blow off my head a couple of times.

Storm hasn't been as intense today...but it has lasted a lot longer. This is the kind of rain I prefer when the roof is leakproof. My paranoia is still fairly high, though. Every once in a while Tricks will lick her lips and it sounds like it could possibly be water dripping from the ceiling, so I spend 5 minutes looking around for any leaks before realizing it was just Tricks.

The worst is yet to come, apparently. They said it would hit at noon, and I think it's a bit delayed. Good luck with your roof. Been there, done that, not fun.

Mus, where do you live? I thought you were in Seattle, at first, then it occurred to me that you're in Vegas ... But, those mountains look way too close for Veags.

It's been a wet week. Mini-tornadoes in parts of Orange County and Southern LA County, mudslides, flooding high winds everywhere else. Our house is OK, although another week of this would get me concerned about the hillside.

My car, however, apparently has a leak in it. I realized this morning that the entire passenger-side floorboard is soaked. Kind of wondering where that came from, since all the windows were closed, etc.

Yeah, I'm in Vegas. I work in the deep southwest corner of the Valley, so there are mountains *really* close to where I am.
