Would it really kill you ignorant non-typing bastards to express your thoughts in complete sentences with proper spelling and punctuation? You're trying (I assume) to run a business. Do you communicate to your prospects this way? Taking an extra 30 seconds to complete your request can save minutes on both sides when we have to clarify what you want.

While we're at it, how the hell can you run a business with an @aol.com email address? Really? In the IT field?

Come on man.

I still use correct spelling and punctuation (as much as the phone permits anyway) in text messages.

What is wrong with an @aol.com address? Why change something if you do not have to if it already suits your purposes and carries no additional costs?

Its the IT field. @aol.com is like showing up to a car show in a clapped out old Pacer.

Some of my friends and I have tried over and over to explain to others of our friends that we will simply not reply to a message (e-mail, text, IM) that does not make a reasonable attempt at mimicking the English language.

I use punctualization and capitalization, you can too!

Texting, I can somewhat understand because its a limited format with a limited entry pad (Unless I *know* you have a qwerty... then **** you).

IMing, You have a similar canvas as email, and you can use full sentences and grammar to convey a message.

Email? There's no goddamn excuse for either. Especially in business communication.

I have an ancient phone, and I still manage to use proper punctuation/capitalization.

It's not hard, it just takes a tiny bit more effort.

Texting for me is about fitting the message to my space limitation. Email - depends on the formality of the communication.

There was someone I worked with who would write emails with no puctuation (except ????? which he had a facination with and used very liberally) or capitalization. His sentences used incredibly poor grammar and had to be decifered for their meaning. The worst thing is, this also applied to documents he wrote.

He was a contractor (not an employee) who lasted 6 months before he was finally let go. Generally it has taken about 4 weeks to get rid of a clearly incompetent contractor (once it only took 2 weeks). Yet somehow he lasted 6 months while managers tried desperately to find something for him to do. Eventually they had me reviewing everything he did, which usually involved me nearly doing it myself.

I'll give you exactly 1 guess as to why I believe it took so long (its honestly the only thing I could come up with to explain it).

Which do you find worse, text speak in texts or text speak as spoken word?

Spoken word.

And if I had a superpower, it would be the ability to reach through the internet or telephone and strangle people to death.

I'm another of the always use proper spelling and punctuation people, other than capitalization, as it's a pain on my phone.

Though I do use text speak now and again on things like fb and such when I feel like being retarded.

That's slightly worse than my GS-15 boss using emoticons in work related emails.

The comic is win.

This is one of my pet peeves as well. I see it all the time, in e-mails, in tickets put in by users and help desk people. Horrible spelling and grammar. These are things seen by MANY people, and you look like idiots. Spend 30 seconds, finish typing your sentences, and run a goddamn spell check. Idiots.
