This isn't so much a rant. Perhaps a winge? Nervous rambling?

Anyway, I leave for my first national tour in about 9 days. We are hitting Houston, Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Kansas, California, and I think one or two more places. It's something like 18,000 miles in over the course of 8 weeks.

I'm winging about being apart for that long, and so is she. It'll be fine, it's just difficult to be apart for that long. We spent the beginning of our relationship long distance, and it sucked.

It *is* exciting, though. The money is basically union scale, though it's not an equity show, and I won't need to spend much on the road (per diem is your friend). It will let me put a little bit away, which will be great. It's going to be a hell of a lot of work, though - roll into a venue, load in the set, do 1-3 performances, load out, drive 4-8 hours, crash, rinse, repeat.

The show is The Jungle Book, written, directed and produced by the same gent. It's children's theater, which is fun for me. I play Shere Khan, the big mean tiger. If you are interested in seeing the show, PM me and I'll get you some details of where we will be and when. I *might* even be able to score you some tickets, depending on when you get in touch with me and if the other cast members have friends or family that want to see the show.

Off to rehearsal.

Complaining/whining I think.

Close to the British spelling of "whinging", I think. A co-worker of mine (from England) used it all the time, took me forever to figure out what he was saying. It's like whining, yes.

8 weeks is not bad at all, especially if you can get the chance to meet up somewhere on the trip, but still not bad even if you cannot. I would chose it any time over 6 month deployments (which often end up being 8-9 months because of extensions).

Good luck on the tour though, it sounds like a great opportunity.

I swear.. I look at this thread and could swear (based on Monte's skill as a swordsman) that the thread title is behading on tour. And it being about his treatment of roadies.

It's whinge minus the "h". Just another (British) way of spelling whine.

That certainly puts it in perspective, lol. Thank you. And I doubt I'll be getting shot at.

No laptop (I had to spend my money replacing my PC when it died), though I will probably spend a little bit on the road to get a simple Notebook. My goal is to work on my new CD while I am traveling. Having a computer to write it on will help, especially if I can cram something like Audacity on to it to get some preliminary stuff framed for more serious work when I return. Until then, I will post from the business rooms of our hotels when I can get them. There's going to be a blog, as well.

I recommend the show to you guys if you have kids (and even if you don't, it's fun).

Hey Monte, what will be the dates and venue for your NY/NJ/MD leg of the tour? Or is there a listing for the tour dates somewhere?

We are in houston on the 25th (this weekend). I don't have venue lists, yet, unfortunately. The company is the Magik Theater, though my google fu seems to be coming up short for the location in Houston for some reason. Ill find out at rehearsal today.

You can track us at

Closest he gets to us is Lancaster on a Friday night Jasmy. We might be able to do it, but its one heck of a road trip.

Sorry, still no Venue list. Hopefully tomorrow. Opened our show today though, and it was *very* well received.

Hmm, Union, NJ isn't terribly far from me actually. I think Union has a community theater, so my guess is that's where you'll be. Manasquan is a weird location for a show, though. That's a shore town, and NJ shore town's usually aren't terribly busy around October. Sounds like a fun show, though. Have a good time and enjoy yourself! That's one heck of a busy schedule.

The blog I posted above should be updated with a venue list. Most shows are daytime shows. Im currently sitting in a hotel in maryland (Cheverly, MD, specifically). I may go to DC tomorrow and hit the smithsonian, or I might just be lame and work on some music in my hotel room. We have no performance tomorrow, but are on stage Tuesday, then we run back across the country to New Mexico.
