Well, we are moving out of California in no less than 3 months. I am very happy about this because I've wanted to get out of this shithole of a state for a long time. We are Idaho bound(Boise area). So, what brought this on? We've been wanting to move for a while now, sure...but it was always a distant dream. The reason we are so sure we are out of here is because the bank booting our asses. You see, we had to take out a second on the house a few years back so my mother could buy a dog grooming business back in 2005(I think? Maybe 2004). Things were going great back then and we were having no issues. Late 2008 rolls around and the economy was taking the downturn and people wouldn't bring in their dogs as often for grooming to cut back on expenses and it slowly bled money. Less business along with rapidly increasing rent(all of the stores in the shopping center started going out of business so the owner had to up everyone else's rent). Mom shut the shop down last August and got a job at Petco as the groom manager, but it wasn't enough. So, earlier this month, the bank gives us notice that they will be starting the process next month. Dad says it will probably take them a month or two to finalize things. So, dad is going to retire. He's got a good retirement plan. So yeah. Currently paying $3000 a month in rent here. Getting a similar place in Idaho with an actual yard and air conditioning(as well as a heater that can actually be run) will only run us about $1000. So we actually come out on top there, but there's something about losing this house that just totally pisses me off. I mean, if you don't risk anything, you'll never gain anything. My parent's risked on the grooming shop and lost. But this house was built by my father and grandfather. It has been my home for the past 17 years and even before that, I spent most of my childhood in this house because Grandma lived here before we moved in. No one but our family has ever lived here. *sigh* Not to mention the fact that I couldn't do anything to avoid this(hell, I didn't even know it was this bad until the other day when my father told us about everything and that we were going to be gone in 3 months). I mean, I've been looking for a job(I can't even get a **** fast food job), but I'm not even sure if I had a job it would have helped. I dunno. I wish it was under different circumstances. I'm getting what I want, just not how I wanted to get it. |

Sorry about the situation Raltar, hope you folks find your dream up in Idaho. Bring a fishing pole. Fishing is what the couple people I know up there do for enjoyment when they aren't working or on the computer. Come to think of it, one of them does go fishing on her lunch break, she works near a lake. Not sure what part of the State she is in. |

I can definitely relate on the house thing. My Parents lived in the same house, which was built for them (us) in 1970, until they passed. My sister is still living there, although it's way too big for her. I use the basement and half the garage as a shop/rec room. I grew up in that house from when I was about 7 years old. It will be very hard to let it go (but eventually it will have to happen). Sorry about your situation, and good luck with the move. |

I had lived in the same house from the time I was born until I went off to college...Mom and Dad always talked about moving to a better house, but we all knew it wasn't going to happen. My childhood home was old; over a hundred years, I believe, with a history (it used to be a one-room schoolhouse that was converted into a house/pastorium, and then sold later to my parents, cut in half, and moved to their one-acre plot of land). The downside was that it didn't have many modern amenities, like central heating and air, was drafty, creaky, and...well, just old. It was lost permanently, along with all of our possessions, when it burned down in 2001. Yeah, it sucks...it sucks like hell. But you get over it, the good memories stick and the bad ones fade away, and it sounds like (much like my parents), it's a "movin'-on-up" step as far as the actual residence goes. Look forward to the future, and remember the good of the past. |

I'm sorry you are losing your family home, Raltar. Thats got to be tough. I hope that the move goes well, and that the new memories your family makes together overshadows any sense of loss and that you can look back with fond nostalgia instead of regret. |
