Yep. At the ripe old age of 29, I have earned my Old Lady status. Let me preface this by reminding you that I live in the deep south, where manners are everything. Everything. I was standing in line at the bagel shop on campus. The guy in front of me ordered a club, I ordered a club, and the guy behind me ordered a club. When the first sandwich came up, the guy behind me (with his earbuds stuck in) walked right in front of us, nabbed the sandwich, and walked off. The other guy and I looked at each other. A couple of minutes later he got his club, and a couple of minutes later I got mine. As I was walking out the door with my sandwich, I made a stop in front of the table of earbud college student guy. He very graciously took them out of his ears so he could hear what I had to say: "Look, I understand that you are perfectly oblivious to the world around you with those earbuds, but you need to start paying attention. There were two people ahead of you waiting for the same sandwich, one of which was a pregnant woman!" The poor kid starts stuttering "but, I, but..." "You need to learn some manners!" He stutters some more "But, uh, I, uh.." I kid you not, I wagged, wagged, my finger at him and repeated "No! You. need. to. learn. some. manners!" and then I turned around and walked out. *sigh* kids these days. Oy vey. |
