If you had just ONE sentence to tell someone something (someone you have loved and lost either through death or permanent separation) in your own words, what would you tell them? Also, if you had just ONE sentence to tell someone something who just experienced a very similar loss to your own, what would you tell them? |

David, don't do this; You will only hurt people who love you and would do anything to help you through whatever pain and turmoil has led you to this decision. |

I've thankfully not had my life touched by death too often. I dread passing the point where life starts, by necessity, taking my loved ones away, but I'll try to simply be thankful for it affording me as much time as I had with them. To my maternal grandfather: "Thank you, and I'm honored to have known you." To my friend: "You were very loved, by many, and we miss you." To my paternal grandfather: Try as I might, I can think of nothing even remotely positive, polite, or even cordial to say. I would have to try to refrain from unleashing a torrent of anger, of frustration and rage and disgust, of all the nasty little dormant embers the thought of him stokes into refreshed life. So I'll simply say nothing to him. |

To my mom: I wish you could have gotten to know me better when I grew up...I'm much better as a parent than I was as a kid. |

This post just makes me want to cry thinking about the way I acted the last time I saw my grandmother before she died. |

To my step-father's father, who is still alive, but still won't talk to me: "You claim to be a Christian, claim to walk the path of rightiousness, yet still you hold me at fault and my family away, believing a lie told by someone else." Doing so, he has chosen to ignore me, my accomplishments, my marriage and my granddaughter. Even if I was wrong in the wrong, how can he, who professes his faith constantly not show compassion or at least forgiveness for the sake of his granddaughter? How sad and how bitter he must be inside.I believe his only comment the one time he did meet with us four years ago was "she's a pretty little girl", no hug or pat on the head and proceeded to sit in the chair and not say a thing for the rest of a two hour visit. At least she was too young to recognize the contempt for me he wore on his face the entire visit. In half a dozen planned visist since, he has chosen to not be present. Someone with a similar issue: "Do the best you can, be proud of yourself, your accomplishments and your family, and always be willing to at least listen and if you can, forgive." |

There is no one sentence I can find that would address what I would need addressed. I said the only sentence that matters to her many times while she was still here. I love you. |

As many have said before; you are a wise man. I am fortunate that I also said what needed to be said. Fortunate, that they were willing to listen to me. |

Agreed. Life is far too short to hide the most important expressions of emotion behind far more trivial ones. |

Why would I want to talk to someone if I can only say one sentence forever? That's like talking to an inanimate object, or something. |
