Had to put one of our cats down last night. He had Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (Kitty AIDS), and had a chronic sinus infection. Over the weekend, he had come down with a really really bad case of conjunctivitis in both eyes, and wasn't doing very well. We could have blasted him with antibiotics and eye drops and nose drops (Yeh, *that's* gonna happen... He didn't like his face being messed with... but that was a bit of an indicator. He didn't struggle when I was wiping his eyes off...) and all sorts... but the end result would be the same. He wasn't going to get any better, and in fact was probably going to get worse. We... well, I say 'we', but I really mean 'I' (cause mom sucks at those sorts of decisions) made the decision to put him down yesterday morning. He was a good kitty, a stray that adopted us about 9 years or so ago. He decided he wanted to live at our house, and couldn't be dissuaded. A big Siamese Tom that had been in fights and such. I thought he was old when he showed up, maybe 6 or so(?). But he hung on for another 9 years. He picked the right house. /sniffle. Yeh. Its sad, but I'm dealing. Stupid cat. The thing of it is, he really liked me. I'm *not* a cat person by any stretch of the imagination, but he just kinda worked his way into my heart. He was probably the best cat we've had. Our Calico didn't have the time of day for me, the Tortie before her didn't either. Bigs would come in, say hi, head butt you if you weren't paying attention, and just be content to chill with you. We did what we could, the vet said we did more than most, but in the end, (as I knew it wouldn't be) all things must come to an end, and we couldn't do enough. I'll have to see if I have a pic around the house to share. |

Your kitty picked the right house for sure. With you and your mom I bet he had the bestest happy kitty life ever. I am so sad that he is gone and you had to say goodbye. *hugs* Sounds like you were a great owner and he thought so too because he picked you. Sweet dreams, Bigs. |

*sends hugs* He did find the right house to live at. I still miss Patches, although he lived to a ripe old age. This is the basic kind of kitty he was: Now I have a black Lab mix who thinks she is a lap dog and wants to perch on things like a cat. *wry grin* |

My condolences, Müs. I know how it is to not be a cat person at all, only to be adopted by one of the furry little buggers and fall head over heels in love with him. /goes to huggle kitty Cash |

Sorry to hear, man. At least you did a good thing by humoring him and taking him in after he chose your house. And he returned the favor with love. Can't ask for more, really. |

Sorry to hear that, it's hard to have a pet put to sleep. My wife and I had to put her cat to sleep about 2.5 years ago, he also had FIV, though in the end 2 strokes in about 2 weeks did him in. |

As somebody else who is not normally a cat person, but has had cats wedge their way into my life with their irresistable affection lately, I sympathize with your loss. The head-butting allusion in the original post makes me miss Reason. |

He's such a sweetheart. I've never had a cat that was so gentle, quiet, and well-behaved. I'll post pics soon. |

We had to put one of our cats down this weekend, too. He was in late stages of liver failure. I'm so sorry... |
