I had to call ATT today to see what we could do about canceling or removing a data plan that I no longer use. I spoke with two very lovely ladies who were just as sweet as could be, and they retroactively credited me for 3 months and reduced my monthly bill by $45.

This is the 3rd time in the past 2 years that ATT has worked with me on my bill. The first time they forgave a couple hundred dollar overage and gave me 400 rollover minutes. The second time they credited a rebate that I had missed the deadline on.

I've heard some of my friends say they have had awful experiences with ATT, but they have worked with me on every issue I've ever had. I really love the customer loyalty thing and ATT really knows excellent customer service.

Loyalty departments are a good thing...nearly every communication company seems to have one these days. Now if only they'd offer those same deals to people to start with, rather than wait for them to complain or threaten to cancel.

I wish I could say the same. Try being reasonable on a 4+ hour call trying to correct a $900 phone bill that was entirely their fault. I rank them right beside Bank of America on my list of blood sucking companies.

Really? I was only on the phone for 20 minutes and they credited me $180.

I'm on the fence:

AT&T has tried to pull stuff on me before, but usually a call easily straightens it out.

I don't like the way the operate, in general, but I've been with them for around 10 years now, and they are very interested in keeping me as a customer.

We had my grandmothers phone on our plan for a while, and she unknowingly just canceled it without realizing it was still under contract.

It took about 20 minutes on the phone for them to cut the early termination fee by a very large sum, something they didn't have to do at all.

Similarly, I had ordered a new DSL service through them, and been offered a promotion for a free modem at the time I ordered the service. A few months later, I still hadn't received the credit. After calling and talking to them for about an hour, at which point it came out that I really hadn't qualified for the promotion, they offered to give me a straight up $100 credit anyway.

TL;DR: Bad company policies, great customer service.

Data plans are only $30, what else did you cancel?

It was actually an internet dongle, Lenas. I switched it from the internet service to a phone line on a family plan.

My experience was similar to this. The woman I was dating at the time took our phone to Wisconsin for a funeral; and the entire time she was there she was in the network coverage area, and we had the phone hard set to not allow any roaming calls to complete. And then when our bill came in it had $600 in roaming charges.

When I called to talk with someone about this they told me that "it is too bad, it is my word against theirs, I will pay the fee or be disconnected." To which I offered to print off the service coverage map from their website as well as the one they provided me with showing the area we were in was covered, And I offered to send both of these to them. They cancelled my phone line, immediately sent it to collections, and hit me for early termination fees. Their collections people started to call me the next day... The fun part, the bill was not even due for a week.

So IMNSHO; AT&T Mobile can die in a fire.

That is the only reason I do not have an iPhone.

AT&T is commonly referred to in 'the Industry' as The Evil Empire. :p

Mine was when I was moving. from the place I was renting to the house we were buying. I set up the switch dates and everything was confirmed (on the phone) to be transferred fine. Only they immediately cancelled the phone and DSL at the renting place (where I was still leving for three weeks) and hooked up at the new place. Then early disconnect at the new place and connection fee at the old place followed by another round of connection fees at the new place. So three connection fees and two disconnect fees later the bill had skyrocketed... Not exactly what you want as you are trying to moving into your new house, a massive unexpected bill and three weeks of screwed up internet service and marathon sessions on the phone trying to get things resolved.
