...to remember not to call someone who you know works nights when they are trying to sleep!!! I've tried everything. I've been nice, I've been cranky, I've been logical. I've said over and over and over not to call me until after 3PM no matter what day it is. I don't care if you wake me up an hour or so before I naturally wake up between 4 and 5PM. I can deal with that. But people who know better still call me when they know I've only been asleep for an hour or less. Or, they say they never know when to call me, so they just don't. I don't have a problem with things like doctors offices and the like calling me during the day. It's par for the course, part of dealing with a business world that overwhelmingly operates 12 hours or so out of synch with me. But so many people who know me personally all know better, but I can't get it through some of their heads. And I won't turn off the phone while I sleep. I've missed important stuff because I've done this in the past. Not being able to say goodbye to my grandmother while she was still alive is a huge factor in this. This message brought to you by my mother, who called to let me know about my nephew's birthday party. At 10 AM, one half hour after I went to bed. The party's at 10 AM on Sunday. Four days ago, we had the discussion about when its OK to call me for the eleventy-billionth time again, and I mentioned that I've been having problems lately with getting back to sleep if I've been woken up. It's 90+ degrees out, and I'm gonna go warm up another glass of milk. /sigh |

Yeah. Start calling her when you're on a break at night. "Oh hi, I'm on a break, just wanted to see what was up..... oh.... you sleep during this time? Oh shucks, I never know when to call you." |

i recommend an air horn, when they call.. if it is not of life or death importance; you blast the airhorn into the phone. Eventually they will learn, or be unable to use the phone due to deafness |

This reminds me of the time my wife wanted to discuss whether the pipes would freeze while we were on vacation at 2 am when she woke up all of a sudden. |

Can you not turn phone off/unplug until time to wake up? I only have a cell phone and I rarely take it into the bedroom at night. This did result in a co-worker pounding on my door at 1 am once, but I think the benefits outweigh the risks. For those of you wondering why I had given some lady her keys and she "promised" to move her car herself before dark. However she did not. So when the evening guy checked the Valet lot, he had one more car then he did set of keys. Worried that somoene might come looking for that set of keys in the middle of the night, he attempted to call me. Now you know, the rest of the story. |

If I recall correctly, he's in the healthcare industry, and may be "On Call" |

Yeah, I'm in healthcare, but I'm never on call on days...unless you count the possibility of some sort of large emergency happening. But that's as likely as the Undersecretary of Waterfowl Migration being sworn in as POTUS. As I said before, I'm not about to turn off the phone because I've missed important stuff this way. I want to be available for true family emergencies if they happen. I've been working nights for almost 15 years now, so it's not like it's something new, either. And while the suggestion to call people back late at night has occurred to me, I'm not about to do this to my moms. She takes Ambien, so i'm not about to wake her up just to do that so she can't get back to sleep while still on a hypnotic drug. She might drive the wrong way down the freeway while she eats a spackle and mayonnaise sandwich or something. |

Did you tell her to shut the **** up? I don't think I was coherent enough. I just sort of grunted and moaned until she did it of her own accord. |
