I've been having nightmares every night for the past two weeks. This leaves me physically and mentally exausted all day. I can't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep. It's getting really bad at this point. And now I'm starting to hear things. This morning as I was laying down to go to bed, I heard a very, very loud plane fly by. Like, incredibly loud. It sounded like it went right past my ear loud. Clearly, everyone else should have heard it as well, right? Nope. My father goes down stairs to take the dogs out and I asked him what the hell that sound was and he said he didn't hear anything. It boggles my mind how he couldn't hear that. But he didn't. I ask my mother and my brother, and they both say they heard nothing. Come to think of it, something that loud should have rattled the windows and such, but now that I think about it, I didn't feel anything vibrate. I feel vibrations from planes really high up, so this should have shook the damn foundation. But there was nothing.

What the hell, man? I'm getting kinda tired of this ****, like for real. I just want a night to go by where I don't wake up and sleep the whole way through with no interruptions. I want to wake up feeling refreshed for a change instead of dragging *** all day long wishing I would die or something just so I can get a good night's sleep.

Sounds a lot like your airplane experience was sleep paralysis. I don't know that there is a cure but being aware that you are susceptible may help.

Sleep paralysis is a fairly common thing with me these days as well. But I was awake and moving when I heard the plane, so I'm fairly certain it wasn't that.

Tell your doctor about it, might be a medical problem.

I bet you need a mild anti-psychotic/anxiety medication. That would likely fix your problem. Go see a doctor. Also don't drink caffeinated beverages before you sleep. Make sure you get some exercise every day, even if it's just walking around. Take fish oil too.

Sounds like lack of sleep...the problem is compounding on itself. If you can't relax through natural methods (soft music, lavender oil, chamomile tea, etc) Maybe go see your doc for a temporary sleeping aid.
Perhaps all you need is a few nights rest.
Also, I'm sure you've thought of this already, but make sure you have a clean conscience. If anything is bothering you that you need to get off your chest, talk to someone or write in your journal or something.
Hope you get some rest soon dude.

Visit your general practitioner and explain in specific terms what's going on. Worst case you waste a little bit of time at the doctor's office and rule out anything neurological.

I think I am gonna hallucinate too, someone is roofing their house..a couple hours of sleep is not enough.

Raltar, not getting sleep is unhealthy, you should see your doctor..maybe get some ambien to help out. Going without sleep for long time really does effect your mind and can be the begining of health problems.

1. Go jogging for before bed time (2 miles is good).

2. Take a very hot shower after you jog.

3. Drink a cup of Chamomile Tea.

4. Take 2 Benadryl.

5. ???

6. PROFIT! (In this case, sleep).

He should do all 5 (or 6 depending on how you read that) steps in order.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give Khross' idea a shot first, then I'll see about talking to a doctor. Somehow.

It's more fun to do all of them at once.

Edit:

In complete seriousness, the symptoms you describe sound very much like Exploding Head Syndrome, which is not nearly as awesome as it sounds.

That loud sound thing might be something like tininitis (or however it's spelled). If you had some sort of inner ear problem causing it, it could be related to the nightmares too. I've heard that there are some ear problems that can cause nightmares, but I can't remember the details.

Benedryl works pretty well. Or would, if I wasn't on anti-anxiety meds, which relaxes me to the point where I don't have much trouble sleeping these days.

Actually, as someone who actually has chronic auditory tinnitis, I'd have to disagree. Tinnitis for me is a constant perception of sound that just never stops. It's something you get used to for the most part...the effect waxes and wanes, with a full-on effects being one of the most miserable experiences you'll ever have (thankfully, I've only experienced this once). The other kind of tinnitis is a whooshing sound that seems to correspond with your pulse---and if you get that, get your butt to a doctor STAT... as you've probably got some serious medical issues developing.

To my knowledge, there's no type of tinnitis that involves hearing a mysterious loud noise once.

Jogging two miles in the shower would be tough. A lot of laps, I think. Not to mention, your tea would get really diluted.

Not that I've heard of, it's an anti-histamine, the active ingredient is also used in Tylenol PM.
