Ok this really sucks. Why is it that my job has to bump me down to 6th grade, when I have senority over people whose jobs were cut in the other buildings? So What that they only have a Social Studies certification. I have a K-6, and a Middle School Social Studies 7-9, and a technology cert k-12. Let me get this straight because the district decides to cut jobs in the other buildings and those people don't have any other certs but Social Studies, myself and the 8th grade social studies teacher have to get moved. She is getting moved to 3rd grade. I have senority by years over 9 people who jobs got cut but because they only can teach Social Studies I have to move. This totally sucks serious amounts of sweat off B----. I told my principal as soon as I see a high school job open for Social Studies at the high school I am bumping the person who took my 7th grade up to there. I am really pissed. |

Because you have qualifications that make you mobile. The boobs who have displaced you do not, but couldn't be fired. |

Believe me, if I had an answer to that question I'd be wealthy from selling it. |

I am thinking about getting a science cert also. You know another teacher told me today to not tell the district because of what happened to me today. The district also doesn't have my tech cert on file. I am saving that for the job I am looking for in other districts this summer. |

I assure I'm empathetic to your personal plight, Oonagh. As such, I apologize for the fact that your post had me reeling in laughter for a good 10 minutes. |

(oonagh as Foamy) and they wonder why I am the only republican teacher in the building. What the F is the union going to do for me. Nothing. I hate unions |

Oh and get this. I left early today and one of the kids started a petition for me to keep my job. The only highlight of my day. I did not teach today because today was a test day, but I spent most of my time with a throbbing headache and tears staining my cheeks. The kids felt bad for me. I am just so....... |

Oonagh, I'm not quite sure what you're upset about here... They're making personnel changes and you're keeping your job over people that got fired because they have less certification than you? Sounds to me like your certification and seniority are saving you from being cut, or at the very least your flexibility is allowing a few others to keep a job where they would otherwise be unemployed... Or am I misinterpreting? |

At least you kept your job and have more mobility in the future than others. |

While I'm sure it isn't ideal, you still have a job where other people were cut. I mean, would you have rather them cut you as well? |

See what is happening is the district is not hiring any new people for those people who are retiring this year. They just asked the people who have other certifications to move into different positions. In doing this, to save money, they said lets cut these other positions so they had to bump people who weren't asked to move, but were told. Like me. I don't think there is anything the union can do about it even with my senority over these people. This is why I refuse to wear our union shirt on Friday in support for negoitations of our new contract. I hate unions anyway. They protect the weak and then when it comes to people like me, who do their job and do it well, they screw the good people over. I love how they protected a teacher who wears her cell phone ear bud in her ear all day to teach class. To add to the mess they decided to cut the time of my class to 45 minute periods for more math and reading instruction because our district doesn't make scores, but our F------- building does and damn it we have triple the amount of kids then the other buildings. That is why their jobs were cut. |
