Is the suckiest suck in the history of all sucking.
But running the numbers through http://quitmeter.com/index.php I can save about $160/month so I just need to keep my eyes on the prize. Also the day-to-day benefits add up rather quickly http://www.stqp.org/quitsmokingtimeline.asp

Amen, brother! :)

My lifesaver when I quit was the website www.whyquit.com and specifically, all the content in Joel's library including the pdf book you can download and print for free.
"Never give in, never give up, never take another puff."

Good for you man. It will totally suck for awhile but the first 72 hours are the hardest physically.

You can do it!!

Need any support or advice, let me know. I'm prolly not the only quitter around here either.

Do it Hopwin! Congratulations, and lots of positive energy your way.

Of course, I'm not a quitter, I'm a never started. I consider that one of the best decisions I ever made.

I smoked over 2 packs a day for years. Once you have more of a personal investment in your reason to quit than you do your reason to smoke, you'll quit.

In my case, my kids were young and I went out on a limb and told them that I was going to give them an example of how to do it. I played it up big for about 2 months or more. Stopped on my birthday (many years ago at 11:59 PM after probably 3+ packs) and haven't had another.

This statement applies to all goal setting, not just quitting smoking.

True, but rarely is there a concerted effort by a commercial manufacturer to induce a physical and psychological dependence as the reason to continue the behavior you want to change.

At least, I hope so.

My roommate is using the Nicoderm patch and aside from the crazy dreams and queasiness, it's working great for keeping him away from cigs.

I am using those too, I take them off an hour before sleep to prevent the crazy dreams.

I can go spend a week or so with non-smoking friends without a cigarette...come home, first thing I want is a smoke! Patches and gum do nothing for me! Guess I need to run away and hide in a cave somewhere! Good luck with quitting, it isn't easy, I know...been trying for a couple years now to quit...one day at a time!

I started smoking in the military.

There would be many times when in formation we would be put "at ease". That doesn't mean that you can go milling around, it means you can stand with your legs spread shoulder distance apart. It also was a time to "smoke 'em if you got 'em", and THAT meant you could do a bit more movement.

The C rations we were given had cigarettes in them, and I'd light up and pretend to smoke so I could move around more. Real smokers would want me to give them the smokes, and would give me a hard time for faking it, so I started really smoking.

20 years later I finally quit.

It's not just the military, Nev. There are plenty of workplaces where smokers get breaks that others don't.
I remember quitting when I was pregnant with my first child and I had been quit for a year but my job was stressful and we were only allowed two 15 minute breaks plus lunch...but somehow smokers were allowed to grab a 3-5 minute break several times a day to light up.
I wasn't the only one that started smoking again because of that.

Yeah that's true, when I worked at BK the smokers got way more breaks than me. Not really fair.

That's just called "bad management".
