(Somewhat related, I suppose, to Nevendal's earlier rant)

RAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRR.

Seriously? You're having me send a file to a guy who's going to have it printed, and I have to explain, step-by-step, how to save a file? You know what? It's not even the specifics of this particular interaction. It's the fact that I have to do this for everyone except my boss and my assistant. I can't even begin to count the number of times I've emailed the same damn things to certain individuals, who expect me to drop what I'm doing, search my email history, and resend the damned thing because they can't be arsed to figure out the damn search function of their email.

WE USE GOOGLE EMAIL. GOOGLE IS KNOWN FOR ITS SEARCH CAPABILITIES.

What bothers me the most, though, is that everyone just hand-waves their willful ignorance away with "well, I'm/he's/she's/they're not very 'technology-savvy.'"

IT IS 2010. THAT EXCUSE NO LONGER WORKS THAT WAY. Computers have been around since before most of these people were born, and personal computing has been around for thirty. ***ing. years. It's time to put your big-boy pants on and either adapt or die. At this point, if you can't figure out how to save a ******* file, save the rest of the world the headache of dealing with you and just find yourself a nice casket. You are a waste of a good job that could be filled by an individual who has either a) the magnificent ability to have been born after 1980, or b) the audacity to actually learn how to function in modern life. I'm not talking to Grandma, so long removed from the workaday world as to no longer recognize it...I'm talking about people who still actively attempt to function in a professional capacity without the basic skills possessed by, let's face it, toddlers at this point.

POINT & CLICK OR GTFO.

Exactly. Plus kids are being born with carpal-tunnel syndrome these days. Even the Amish have iPods.

And the inevitable "Gosh Far, what's with the attitude? Why can't you be a team player?" from the clueless schmuck who can't be bothered to put down his coffee mug and sully his fingers with a keyboard.

Not really in Farsky's case. In yours or mine, perhaps, but Farsky's job isn't tech support. That's a big part of why he's so annoyed at this, I'm sure. He's supposed to be arting, not teaching people what to do with the art they want from him.

I am now in a position where I take tickets from senior support folks...

First major article I wrote was everything I knew about every error that would cause someone to escalate to me...

Second major article I wrote was everything I knew about every file that I might want (or a colleague might want) to help those tickets...

There are people who love me for #2...

And there are folks who send me tickets without anything from #2... who I then give #2 back to via their manager and my response because my article is essentially 'How to do your job and make mine easier... or harder...'

You send me a ticket and have all the files I want with all the troubleshooting I can think of? *gulp*

Sorry Mr. Farsky... is it all Mac based, at least?

Tip for you: Create an admin account, company wide, and then vnc://<IP address of idiot>/ with OS X 10.5.8 or later and screen sharing ftw.

Oh, and another thing: if you're going to own a business, plunk down the $10 for a damn domain. Stop expecting to be taken seriously as a professional (particularly as a media/public relations professional) when you send out emails from <businessname (usually missing a letter or two, because your naming skills have the originality of a Xerox machine's output)>@aol.com or @charter.net or @comcast.net. THIS IS WHY NO ONE LIKES YOU.

How about @gmail.com?

Gmail is acceptable, but I'd still buy a domain and just use Gmail to grab it.

Setting up your own email address, including domain registration/setup/payment and then Gmail settings probably takes a total of 15 minutes if you know what you're doing.

Also, where's the titular [sic]?

Odd phrase. I would have accepted "tech-savvy" or "technologically savvy" before "technology-savvy."

Ah, okay. I was looking for a misspelling.

Yeah now when they say that I tell them "Then I suggest you take a class on basic computer operation, they have been around for over 25 years and are available at your local community college, goodbye."
