Since my son and stepson both live in Tennessee I've gotten into the habit of carrying a spray bottle of Febreeze air freshener when I visit them since the hotel rooms always smell of mold and/or mildew. I was attending a wedding in Ohio this past weekend and knowing that Ohio could be rather humid I had my usual spray bottle of Febreeze in my suitcase. It was enclosed in a plastic bag all by itself. I had my hair dryer and curling iron in a separate plastic bag, and my suede flats in yet another seperate plastic bag.
So I land in Columbus, gather my bag from baggage claim, get the rental car, and drive to West Chester and check into my hotel room. I open my bag to find everything is damp and find a card from TSA stating that they had searched my bag, with an email address to get information on how to pack a suitcase. The idiot TSA agents in San Jose that went through my bag had not only knocked the cap off of the Febreeze bottle, but they had put the shoes, curling iron , and hair dryer into the SAME plastic bag with the Febreeze!! Luckily my shoes had time to dry out before the wedding, but the curling iron and hair dryer are toast!
I really hate these new "security" procedures. Why even bother when the terrorists can still get past them?? All they do is cause damage to personal property and delay everyone in the so called "security line".
As a side line, the wedding was fantastic! Short and sweet and funny! My son was the best man, his best friend was the groom, his other best friend was the groomsman...and the reception was great! I had four handsome young men hugging and kissing (platonically) and dancing with me all night*!!
