I'm absolutely sick and tired of their over-controlling bs they pull on everyone. I bought every single one of my apps and songs legit, with the same apple account. Yet, because of their BS, I keep getting this authorization crap popping up for over 100 of my apps (probably at least $350-500 worth of apps), which means I can't put them onto my iPhone after I upgraded OS. I wouldn't have needed to delete all of the apps on my phone if it didn't take 3-5 full days (seriously) to backup my iphone when syncing. So to make it go quicker, I deleted almost every app I had. I had previous back ups of most of them, so I just downloaded the updates for the apps and figured I could reinstall all of those apps back on my phone after I upgraded to OS4. WRONG! Even though I bought those apps on my iphone with my same Apple account, my computer keeps going in an endless loop, first saying I need to authorize the computer to use the 100+ apps, and then after I do, it says the computer has already been authorized. Essentially, I have hundreds of dollars worth of apps just sitting on my computer, unusable.

NOW, here's the part that REALLY pisses me off. As an experiment, I decided to delete one of my .99 cent apps, to see if they'd charge me again when I went to re-download it; they DO. So now, the same account has been charged twice for the Angry Birds app. Thank god I didn't try to re-download it with an app like TomTom or something.

Yes, I have tried all of the troubleshooting. It appears that TONS of people have this problem across the internet, with little answers. On a related note, a lot of people have issues with their old AOL accounts. For a long time, I bought stuff with my AOL login. About 4-5 years back, they required all AOL accounts to register with a new apple account. After getting a new computer, all of the songs I bought on my AOL account are gone. I'd login to authorize them on this computer, but Apple won't even allow you to log into those AOL accounts any longer. Now, it immediately asks you to sign up for a new Apple account when you try to login with one. This was strike one for Apple. However, it's a completely separate issue from the one I'm having with the apps.

Lastly, after searching for a tech support email or number, I discover Apple has the audacity to require you to pay for their customer service. Seriously Apple? We aren't talking about a warranty or extended service. We're talking about basic customer service, as in, I call in for help and you charge me. I need to buy a support token or whatever in order to get help for a problem with your software and product?

F*** YOU APPLE.

Sincerely,
Me.

*shrug* I download and pay for an app on my iPhone, iPad, whatever, then download it again for free on any other device. A message pops up saying "you've already purchased this app, would you like to update it for free?" and I just say 'yes.'

I have also logged into my Apple account and remotely deauthorized all currently authorized computers (I usually authorize work computers, etc.). Then I just re-authorize the ones I still have. I've never had a problem with it.

Also, why does it take you so long to sync your iPhone? I have 225 apps and it takes maybe thirty minutes to do a full (music/video/app/photo/etc.) sync.

I've never had the problem, so I don't know if it'll help or not, but here's a support article re: iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer.

Also, link to support email form:
http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/con ... 20problems

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, I think. I called Apple and talked to a rep. Finally figured out their software thought I had 2 accounts. I cleared the phone to factory, reauthorized the phone to "fix" the problem, logged into the account they told me the apps were purchased under, and they reversed the payment I incurred when I downloaded and was double billed.

It sounds similar. Really, the entire "authorization" stuff is an enormous pain in the a$$. If I buy the song or app, I should have it permanently, on however many devices I want. In my case, it's only two devices, which makes it even more crazy that I'm having such a problem with authorization. 100% of my apps were purchased under the same account, yet almost none of them will transfer from my laptop to my iphone due to authorization issues, even though the computer says I'm authorized. I'm going to give Apple an earful tomorrow. It's so frustrating. It happened to almost all of the primary apps that I use regularly. I have no idea why this happened, but it's beyond ridiculous. In order to even get some free apps to work, I need to delete them, and completely re-download them. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for paid apps, since they'll charge you again. Hopefully they resolve the issue tomorrow for me.

On a positive note, I did manage to get the new Netflix app working, which was my entire motivation for switching to OS4. I love it!

Here's the issue I keep running into with all of my apps when I go to add them to my iphone:

Jailbreak your phone and get the Installous app to download whatever you want.

You're welcome.

I'm considering this course of action. I think Apple can stick it, and I have every right to use the content I purchased. I'd have no moral issue with downloading the apps again for free through Installous. I only hope I can figure this jailbreaking thing out. I'm not extremely technically savy, though I'm no idiot. I just know these types of things tend to have issues that need to be troubleshooted, similar to the very issue I'm having right now with Apple's BS. The difference is there's actually answers out there for the jailbreaking stuff. There's no answer for why Apple has their head up their a**.

if you are on iOS 4.0.1 or earlier, you can jailbreak just by going to www.jailbreakme.com on your phone and sliding a button. Simple as that.

So... ever use, I don't know, an AOL account?

Did you try to authorize using that?

Also, ever read the App Store FAQ?

If you buy the same app with the same account, it's free to download as often as you like.

So if you get charged for downloading something from the App Store you downloaded previously, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!

You're welcome.

I was double charged once. Guy at customer service was cool about it too, they got it reversed within a few days and I have had no further problems.

You can't log into an AOL account any longer. It forces you to open a new account if you even try.

That FAQ isn't going to fix this issue. I've had an Apple "expert" stumped on this issue for over 45 minutes now.

If you buy the same app with the same account, you certainly can be charged twice for the same app/song. It's happened several times. It has to do with authorization issues. If you have an authorization issue, enjoy paying twice and waiting a long time for Apple to fix the issue. OH.....and the kicker, it's costing me $30 for this support call, only to figure out they have no clue what's wrong. The call isn't over yet, so I'll have to wait and see what they figure out, but it's taking forever.

You said you aren't tech savvy, so let me break it down:

Your existing AOL account corresponds to the iTunes database as account # 8675309.

They may have disabled the option to login as AOL account, but YOU should have the option to convert from AOL to Apple account when you try.

Here, read this.

If you can't figure it out, since you paid for support, ask them to find your dchrist24 AOL and convert it for you.

When that happens, it's like #8675309 now is accessed via dchrist24@gmail.com, for example.

It may help if you login to the AOL account and look for an old e-mail receipt to give them the MXC______ receipt #.

You have two accounts. I can't explain how correct Taskiss is...

Also, you can be charged for downloading the same song twice, but App Store/iBookstore are more forgiving, and as long as you sign in with #8675309, whatever the account ID changes to, when it checks Purchase History and finds MXC______ with Angry Birds, you don't get charged.

If you go Store > View my Account... and look through your purchase history, there's stuff you bought which isn't there on the @yahoo, right?

Get access to your old AOL account resolved, authorize with whatever it turns into, and accept that you played a part in this by making two accounts.

Also, for the pirates:

And iTunes and authorizations are inconvenient, but there are other measures which are more draconian:
