Gah. I've banked with Wachovia for about three years now, and last year the rumblings began that they'd been purchased by Wells Fargo. Well, the bells finally tolled for Wachovia in Tennessee and Alabama, and last Monday was the assimilation of Wachovia by Wells Fargo.

I was told that I was going to be receiving a new debit card (Dammit! Now I have to memorize a new number, and change all of my copious Amazon pre-orders...), but that the rest of transition would be seamless (my account number would stay the same, the transactions would all carry over, etc.).

The transactions did carry over fine, but Phe and I didn't receive our new debit cards before the transition. I called a week before and was told that "they just got mixed up in the mail," that the letters I received saying that I should have already received my cards must have just gotten to us before the cards did. I live and die by my debit card, so last Monday, still having received exactly zero new debit cards, I had to go and spend an hour in the bank (visiting the bank in person always makes me feel so déclassé) getting a temporary debit card, and re-ordering a new official card. And I couldn't even get one for Phe, because she wasn't with me.

So, still having not received any debit cards, and with Phe returning to Alabama today for this week to take care of cleaning and prepping the house for sale, we needed another debit card for her. So last Friday, I again went and sat in the bank for an hour, this time with her, and we got her a temp card and ordered her a new official one.

Had a wasted two hours in the bank been the extent of my issues, it would have been annoying, but not terrible. But the kicker was that Friday was payday. My boss, who's in Florida, went to deposit my paycheck. Unfortunately, as we found the hard way, the Floridian branches of Wachovia and Wells Fargo have not yet made the transition. My boss hit three different branches, driving all over town, each of them telling him that my account had been canceled. I finally called WF and found out that because of the transition in Tennessee (but not in Florida), the Florida branches of Wachovia saw my account as a Wells Fargo account, and there are no Wells Fargos within a ninety-mile radius of Boca Raton. He eventually had to wire it into my account, a process for which they gladly charged a fee to both him (the sender) and me (the recipient).

Gah!

Yeah, our local bank (Riverside) just transitioned over to TD Bank, and they screwed the pooch on sending out new cards. There was a bunch of people in there with the same issue when we went down to get the new cards.

And dude, wtf, you moved to Boca? Awesome. How did I miss that?

No, he didn't. That's where his boss is.

That sucks, Farsky. I would be really pissed...I have absolutely zero patience for stuff like that...we had one similar experience and switched banks over it.
I hope they got it all resolved and you don't have any more difficulties.

If I were your boss (and even yourself). I'd demand that because of the banks' **** (not recognizing your accounts) that they should refund both the sending and receiving of the wired funds. You should not be responsible for the staggering of the bank transitionings, nor you should you be held hostage with lack of income due to their incompetence.

I'd have your boss threaten to close his account through them, due to their incompetence and arrogance in the matter. Maybe losing a business account will affect them more than losing your personal accounts.

Got it. Missed reading one sentence but apparently it was important.

I want to like Wells Fargo...they've got a lot of nice online tools that Wachovia never had. But this whole thing has just been ****.

Another dollop of whipped crap on the crap sundae: my actual debit card arrived yesterday (thank God...I live and die by my debit card). I waited until today to activate it, so as to not risk messing up an order I'd placed for part of Phe's birthday present (the temporary card automatically deactivates upon successful activation of the real card). I called the activation number before lunch, put the required info (the card number and my account number) into the automated system, and was told that they were sorry, but they couldn't activate the card at this time. Please try your call again later.

"Okay," sez I to myself, "Well, I'll just use my temp card at lunch today."

You can see where this is headed, I'm sure.

Yup, I get to Subway and lo and behold, the temp card is declined.

Grrr! Thankfully, I had a little cash on me (I virtually never carry cash).

This. is. annoying.

As you grow older and wiser, you will change this nasty little habit.

Always carry some cash, and keep some in your home in case of emergency. ;)

And to add to that.....always fill your car up, never let it get below half a tank unless it's a long road trip and you just can't help it. Always carry a change of clothing on a trip, and meds you may need. Basically, always be prepared.......like a Boy Scout!

I had a Wells Fargo account ....

....for about 3 months. Bank seemed ok, but the credit card was an unmitigated disaster and I had to close both to get rid of the credit card.

This is a very charitable summary of this organization.

Join a credit union. Seriously, join a credit union. Far better terms, customer service, and service sharing agreements mean free ATMs from any credit union, and you can do your banking at almost any credit union location (yours or others) except for in store satellite branches.

My permanent debit card was created on-site and given to me fully usable the day I created my account, while I waited (but I am at Arizona's largest credit union).

Of course, I went to my credit union from Compass Bank, so even a bank where I was force-fed dog crap between cowflops every hour was an improvement.
