Ok, there's gotta be something besides drink beer and have lots of sex! Although, those aren't bad options....just want a little more outta life. ;)

We have 3 kids between us, all loveable pains in the butt....so we can't follow the lists of people before us who have no kids at all...things like "live in a high rise apartment" or "travel the world" or other things that require being single, having no kids, and actually having more than $20 in the bank are all off the list.

Things that are still on the table: write a book. Drink beer. Have lots of sex.

After that I'm stumped...and no, "learn to knit" or "learn to embroider" are not on the list of things to do either. Just because I can't have more babies doesn't mean I want to turn into Grandma! Nothing boring! I'd like to live while I still can.

Also, after 2 years of being pregnant and losing 3 babies and a mom and a grandma....I need fun websites that can fill up all the empty time spaces that I used to fill with baby sites and support groups. I'm DONE with the online grief groups and the pregnancy & baby crap.

Bring it on ya'll! (If you guys are even still here...what's the dealy-O with the Glade petering off the past few months?? Feels like this place is dwindling. :( )

Thought about that already, Taskiss. I'm home-schooling 2 boys with my son right now which brings in a little money.
There is a run-down building on the corner of our block that is being used by an old lady as a thrift store but she's only there a couple of times a week...not sure if she owns it or not.
Called the tax assessor's office to see who owns it...betting I could either rent it for cheap, or if the thrift store lady owns it I could work out something with her....just a thought I had today and was following to see if it goes anywhere.

Midgen, I have absolutely no faith in my abilities....but if I could figure out how to actually use my cakewalk software for recording more than just one track or adding in synthetic beats/background stuff I might be able to at least entertain really drunk people.

Cakewalk is lamezors, IMO. Or at least it was in my opinion years ago when I was messing with it. If you want to get into media, sign up for a course at a college someplace. Anything cheap, just enough to get you a .edu email. Then buy the Adobe media suite at like 50% through a student discount website. Then either finish the class, if you like it, or drop it in time to get a refund.

Alternatively.... if you have a garage big enough, you could create biofuels. If your car runs on diesel you could get the oil from a nearby restaurant and just make biodiesel at your house. I think you can do home-brew ethanol too but it isn't as easy.

Yeah, Cakewalk is the only program I'm familiar with though and buying a new program is kinda out right now. I am leaving options open of taking some classes at a later date, but right now with my BA in Spanish being completely useless and 60k in student loans hanging over my head, school is not on the horizon anytime soon.
Biofuels would be pretty cool, but we don't have a garage or a diesel engine. For that matter, we don't have enough of a yard to grow anything although I did plant some veggies at my in-laws house. Season has come and gone and it was fun. I tried having some potted herbs here but after a couple of months me and the cat and the dog somehow managed to kill them all by over fertilizing...lol!

Start a blog. It's not hard and can engage multiple hobbies at once - writing, photography, videography, etc. depending on what you decide your topic will be.

Hmm... based upon some of the responses and your OP, I think it might help to know a vague budgetary limit for this new endeavor...

Edit: I mean, are we talking $0 here, or like $20 a month?

Hmm. Learn to cook [better]. Experiment, try new recipes, stretch your comfort level.

Brew your own beers.

Tutor kids. (BA in Spanish useless with a porous border like we have!?)

Take up a hobby -- this requires more info on available space and budget to make good recommendations. (some of the above applies, but will offset costs by replacing things you're already doing)

DFK: Until after Christmas...$0. After that maybe $100 a month. Maybe. Our kids keep coming up with expenses....
Kaffis, I spent a lot of time while I was on bedrest watching the food network. Expanding the cooking is on my list of things to do...waiting for the next trip to the grocery store in a week or so before I get to do anything really fun. :) Looking forward to it though for sure!
As far as tutoring people in Spanish...you'd think it would be lucrative but its not. Not here in Mississippi anyway. And believe it or not, there are quite a few native speakers in our region who have enough schooling to completely wipe out the competition in the education employment field.
I do have some beadwork I could be doing and also found some kick-*** fabric and a dress pattern in the craft closet that I had bought right before I got pregnant....gotta wait a few weeks though for this last 10lbs of baby weight to come off so I can see what size I'm gonna be.

Arson....heh. Hopefully I'll get to go camping this weekend....bonfires are awesome.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting tutoring kids (in general) as a lucrative business, necessarily -- more as something fulfilling to do to keep busy, and, as a bonus, let you work with kids.

Also, I figure that on the volunteer side, tutoring *hispanic* kids in English might be more in demand, depending on local demographics. And the Spanish BA ought to help there, some.

I'm not really in the same boat as you, but experiencing some uncertainty of my own. My divorce was finalized just a couple weeks ago, and I'm still getting used to a new rhythm for life where the kids are at their mom's some of the time. Those nights when the house has only me in it lead to a LOT of questions, and time for those questions to pop up. Like, who am I if not dad, or husband, or career guy, or grad student? Or whatever... I mean the gist is that life got into a routine where I was basically a collection of roles. Pull me out of them and I don't know where the heck I am. It takes time to fill the spaces where something else was, and more time - I'm finding - before that something else starts to feel like, you know, me.

So what to do with that newfound time? Honestly, I don't know yet. I really love the idea of creating. I'm gradually making progress on my garage - once it has more free surfaces available I really want to start working with glass and ceramics. I'm going to get all crafty. I want to remember what it's like to read for recreation, too.

For you? I guess that's the big decision huh? You get to decide who LK is outside of those roles. I'll second the pursuit of music, because I know you're good at it. But more important is what you love. Shoot, I want to learn to play a mandolin someday and I've never picked one up in my life. All that matters is that you get into you, and you just enjoy the time with you, and enjoy your time with Nitefox - I'll put a personal note in here too and say that it's always good to dedicate time to really growing with your s.o. Do something that you both enjoy, and do it together (not that, pervs). When you get all wrapped up in your life roles, it can really put a damper on a relationship.

I'm really glad to see you posting stuff that shows you're looking forward in your life, by the way. My heart just broke for you all. If anything look at it like you've got a free license to dabble - pick up new stuff and drop it left and right. Finding the stuff that sticks is half the fun :)

If you aren't worried about making money at it, look into volunteering for a cause that you care deeply about.

I'd second the recommendation about doing more with music. Work up about 30 minutes worth of material and hit an open mic night somewhere.

Jeryn, you're awesome. That perfectly sums up what I'm going through. Sucks that you've gotta be feeling the same stuff in order to be empathetic, but seems like you've got a handle on it too and some idea about what you've gotta do.

And yes, Nitefox and I can throw ourselves fully into our MTG habit and our movie watching and maybe find something else as well now that the kids sport season is over.

Honestly I would say that it may be a good idea to look into taking some courses at a local college and use the classes towards starting a business: such as cake making/decorating or maybe even take some cooking classes and do something with one of those meal delivery to old people services.
