Grrr.

So I have a 60" Sony SXRD TV. It's been really nice and has worked very well for me until about a month ago, when the color shifted all yellow. After doing some research it looks like there was actually a class action lawsuit on this issue that provided extended warranty on this problem through the end of last year. Great. Of course mine is out of warranty, so I just found out what it would cost to have it fixed. ~$1200 parts/labor. Sigh.

Looks like it's time for a new TV. :|

Similar thing happened to me with a Westinghouse TV (different problem) but the cost to repair the damn thing is about the same as a new one because it's all essentially one big component.

Three things immediately popped into my head, none dealing with a resolution to your problem.

The first, and accurate, thought was that your TV was acting in such a way as to piss you off.

The second was you had found a porn channel.

The third was that someone had found a way to combine a Real Girl (tm) and an LCD screen.

Good luck with finding a replacement. I'd check the consumer reports home electronics book, before laying down the green on a new one though.

$1200 to fix? Get a brand new 65" dlp for $999 or bump it another 8 inches for $1,399. May not get the brightness of an LCD, but I think my 60" is fantastic. I've owned plasma, lcd and now dlp and they all have pro/cons, none of which are deal breakers to me.

You would lose 5" of screen... but:
Vizio 55" Class LCD 1080p 120Hz HDTV, E550VL

From what I can tell the display engine needs to be replaced. Would you trust yourself with replacing it?

Unfortunately Lenas, the room that it's in has a lot of light bleed, so I really need to brightness of an LCD.

I'm sure I could replace the part if it was similar to building a computer from a difficulty standpoint. But it sounds like the parts are pretty expensive as well Taskiss.
