My honey's favorite cousin was in a terrible car accident last night. He was car-pooling to work, sitting in the back seat without his seat-belt on, when the car he was riding in was in a head on collision.

He was ejected from the back seat by flying over the front seat and through the windshield. He is in critical condition in the hospital. Pretty much every bone in his body is broken, and they have drilled holes in his skull to relieve the pressure from the swelling on his brain. The aren't seeing much brain activity. Tomorrow decisions are being made about do not resuscitate orders.

He is roughly may age, and has gone through alot in his life. He finally started getting things together about two years ago, and was doing well. We are all so proud of him. We're all heartbroken right now.

First let me say I am sorry for what you and yours are going thru. I pray for a full recovery. I hope your honey finds comfort in her time of need.

Second, when you are in a better place, educate everyone you know on this subject.

Two guys I've known for a long time were in an accident just like this, this past summer. One was close to your age, the other close to mine (mid 40s). Both were in the back seat not wearing seat belts, when a car rear ended them at high speed. Both were ejected.....the 30 yr old hit the pavement (died) and the 40 yr old hit the grass (suffered head injury, broken up body). Both wives in the front were wearing seat belts and only substained minor injury.

Please tell everyone you know and care about, to wear their seat belts.

No words other than condolences, to you and your sweetie. Be strong, you're good at that, and it is what you can offer right now.

Update:

A turn for the better today. They took him off his respirator, and he is breathing on his own. Hard decisions may not have to be made. Thank you for your prayers.

I'm glad to hear the good news(even though I'm sure he isn't out of the woods yet) but this is just such a tragedy over something so small. I really hope he pulls through.

Prayers for the injured, your sweetie and you.

I have seen both ends to this, and none are good.

Update:

Went to see him again yesterday, and things continue to improve. He is awake for about 10 minutes twice per day before he is put back under. He is responsive, and knows when people are in the room. He squeezed my hand. The drains have been removed from his head, and now it has become more about the healing process than about saving his life, although it's still a fine line.

More details about the accident itself: The driver of the other car was texting while driving, and didn't even try to apply the brakes.

That he is responsive when they wake him for the sedation vacation is awsome! I will keep praying for him.

Texting? :( what injuries does this guy have?
