A cop gave me a ticket tonight for texting but I was actually using my gps. This sucks. Also to make things worse someone parked in my dedicated spot and I parked elsewhere and could get towed. |

Take him to court, and demonstrate thet you weren't texting with your phone records. As to your dedicated spot? That's what tow trucks are for. |

Using a GPS isn't really any safer than texting on your phone. |

I tried calling the towing company whose number is on a sign outside, but the number was unavailable. I Googled them for about 10 minutes and couldn't find them so I gave up. I then called my landlord who just told me to park in the back. I considered keying the car... but I don't do those things. If it happens again with the same car I'll be really pissed. I just left a friendly note on the windshield. (It actually is, not trying to be sarcastic) |

Curious as to what you mean by dedicated spot. Is it a spot that is assigned to you as an apartment complex would do, or do you mean "the spot that I always park in that I have deemed 'my spot' an no one else should park there" |

It's assigned to my apartment (1A) specifically. |

Apparently it is illegal to use your phone as GPS in Massachusetts if you are holding it. Did not know this. |

Here's an article from the Boston Globe prior to the law change going into effect, but detailing what it should cover. http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2010/09/30/safe_driving_law_applies_to_more_than_just_texting_behind_wheel/?page=1 On page 2 it does ask "Can I still enter addresses into my GPS while driving, whether it’s a dedicated unit or a navigation app on my smartphone?" A. The new law appears to create an exemption for that behavior. However, police officers may stop motorists if the typing looks like texting, and the officers may issue $100 citations. They have been instructed to use discretion and to make decisions based on their experience and training, said David Procopio, a spokesman for the State Police.........Also, if officers do not wish to cite GPS users under the texting law, they could choose to write $35 citations using an existing law that covers a wide range of “unsafe operation,’’ a blanket provision that can be applied to anything from wearing headphones while driving to operating a truck with an unsecured child in the truck bed. The Registry of Motor Vehicles said the use of GPS applications on smartphones is not a violation of the law. You might win it if you fight it, but be careful about it in the future. |

Good for you. I imagine the law may likely be amended if they want to continue ticketing ppl using GPS while driving. Also, interesting avatar. A captive in your basement perhaps? |

I was wondering that myself, re the avatar. Also, nice to know someone understands why we have courts. |

Tineye has forsaken me on this one, and I haven't had any luck blind googling it. I did find these potential replacements for TheRiov's avatar while I was at it, though: Spoiler: I seriously have no idea what these have to do with anything I was searching for, but the google works in mysterious ways. |
